On 6/1 #Issaquah City Council approved a resolution to accept the DOJ grant funding *without* #Flock cameras! ✅ This also included a policy adoption requirement before further city action on #ALPR technology (and it will return). Great work by 'No Flock in Issaquah' ! 🏆 #deflock #surveillance

However, that was swiftly countered by CMs Forsythe, Parsi, Nuevacamina and Soni who all spoke out in favor of ending the contract! 👏 It's time to get the #Flock out of #Redmond and reject mass #surveillance! 3/3

CP Stuart asked about interest in scheduling potential action to end the contract with #Flock. CM Kritzer spoke first in support, acknowledging the community feedback. But then we had this terrible take by CM Prakriya who seems to be in favor of mass #surveillance with another vendor, #Axon! 👎 2/3

🧵 Updates from the 5/26 #Redmond City Council meeting on the #Flock #ALPR grant funding... The finance department found no compliance or audit concerns and no need to return funds unless we get a refund from the vendor. Everything was spent as intended, so we're all good! 🥳 1/3

ICYMI, this is Garrett Langley, the CEO of #Flock, in a Forbes interview with @thomasbrewster.bsky.social in September 2025. He believes that opposing mass #surveillance and adding camera locations to a map equates to being a "terroristic organization." Full video: youtu.be/fVCVQcd9PLc #deflock

The community feedback during comments however, was *overwhelmingly* against #Flock and ALPR #surveillance in general. 👏 Many calls for an ordnance to ban or heavily restrict this technology and Flock in particular. Not looking to move forward with #ALPR now, but council wanted more clarity.

Here's the reveal moment from the City of Milwaukee council meeting on 5/7 at around 1 hr 59 mins. milwaukee.granicus.com/player/clip/...

"Do we have a right to know where #surveillance cameras are in the town where we live? Police cameras ... are usually easily visible and well marked—at least for now. What happens when they become so small, they’re effectively invisible?" www.dropsitenews.com/p/nyclu-laws...

Leonardo, an alternative to #Flock for #ALPR, offers tech that logs your wireless devices as well as your plate! "When multiple devices consistently move together with a vehicle, SignalTrace's algorithms link them to that vehicles' license plate and time-stamped location." #deflock #surveillance

The decision in the Virginia lawsuit against 170 #Flock cameras in Norfolk failed to consider how AI can be used to fill in the gaps and deduce even more about our movements. #deflock #surveillance #alpr

Drones are not "first responders." Drones are "first observers." Drones are #surveillance.

Chief Lowe was "deeply involved" in the repeatedly weakened SB 6002? 🤔 #deflock #surveillance #alpr

⚠️ What?? "There will be additional conversation with the council in the coming months as it relates to other drone usage, i.e. commercial drone delivery, which is something that is on the horizon for here in Redmond." Do not want Amazon et al. flying around our neighborhoods! 🚫

CP Stuart on Chief Lowe's recommendation "The department respectfully but clearly recommends that Council authorize resumption of the investigative #ALPR program upon enactment of SB 6002" "I don't hear a lot of immediate support for that action" SB 6002 was a huge let down & changes very little.

CM Forsythe asking Chief Lowe about residents opting-out of #ALPR tracking. A strangely labor-intensive response was given despite #Flock already having such a feature (for HOAs): ⚠️ www.flocksafety.com/blog/how-the... Best solution is to just stop tracking all of us in the first place!

CM Kritzer asking Chief Lowe about drones being deployed at large events or protests rather than the typical response to a direct call for service. Once you acquire the #surveillance tech, the use cases always expand!

Chief Lowe with the "no expectation of privacy on a public road" argument. However, being observable in public is NOT the same as law enforcement actively building out a dragnet #surveillance infrastructure to track all of our movements 24/7! Thank you CM Parsi.

It's not about "peek-a-boo", but we do want to know when you are at Trader Joe's because we just don't have time to do the actual work. We even put up some signs!

A statement was made. It was disappointing.

Council member Soni asking Chief Lowe about the attribution of "successes" to #Flock. Unsurprising that he talks only of hot-list alerts and never the underlying dragnet data capture/retention. The "there are other ALPRs" statement seemed... deliberate? 🤔 #deflock #redmond #surveillance #alpr

Council member Forsythe questioning Chief Lowe about the total number of supposed #Flock "successes". "I'm guessing there are more than six instances? So if you have more data on that as well, that'd be helpful." 🤔 #deflock #redmond #surveillance #alpr
