The SocDems’ Jennifer Whitmore has broken down in tears during a Dáil debate about widening access to abortion in Ireland. TDs will vote this evening on removing the 72-hour waiting period for abortion within 12 weeks, and removing the 28-day limit applying to cases of fatal foetal abnormalities.

Fianna Fáil TD (and former junior minister at the Dept of Finance) Sean Fleming calling for price caps on motor fuels. As pointed out here, this can’t be achieved through tax - a price cap would mean artificially limiting the non-tax bit that forecourts can charge, forcing them to trade at a loss.
