The housing market is broken and it's the corporate investors who have broken it. 1 in 50 people in London are homeless. 📢 @greenjennyjones.bsky.social asks: "In the wealthiest city, in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, how have we got to these figures?"

31 13

@greenjennyjones.bsky.social asks minister what the government's position is on devolution of policing and justice, and of the Crown Estate in Wales. @anthonyslaughter.bsky.social

10 3

The Starmer–Mandelson–Palantir story raises serious questions about how power is being used. A private meeting, a £240m contract without competition - the public deserves answers and full transparency. @greenjennyjones.bsky.social asserts that Palantir's government contracts should be cancelled.

6 1

@GreenJennyJones asks minister "will any of these government policies deal with the endemic problem of corporate greed, that forces up the cost of living and our tax bill, especially the fossil fuel companies who are greedily helping to destroy our planet? #ClimateChange #CostofLiving #Nature

15 2

Only 53% of our nature is left intact, the UK is one of the most nature depleted countries in the world. greenjennyjones.bsky.social asks the government "why we have five days of debate on the King's speech, but we have no mention of the environment?"

15 6

We need tougher regulation of supermarkets to stop them raising prices on basic foodstuffs while making excessive profits and squeezing farmers. @greenjennyjones.bsky.social asks Minister "Shouldn't the government be a little bit bolder and think about the people for once?"

8 3

With child poverty hitting record levels, why is Labour focusing on internal squabbles and not the business of running the country?

21 5

In my response to the King’s speech, I will be raising the issue of the environment and how the climate crisis impacts on every aspect of our lives. We need to take decisive action now, to mitigate the damage and suffering that climate change is going to cause.

12 2

The Global Sumud Flotilla - 70 vessels, 3,000 people, including 1,000 medical professionals - was seized while delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza. The UK government must call this out as illegal and act now to protect all those on board, including British citizens.

14 8

Extending nationally significant infrastructure status to more projects risks shielding damaging developments from proper scrutiny. The Wirral Peak cluster CCS project could cause immense environmental harm. It should not be protected in this way.

6 2

Last year, Greens put several amendments to the Housing Bill to implement local rent controls around the country, but Labour rejected every single suggestion. Green Party councillors will argue for them to happen locally.

23 12

Focusing Prevent on ideology risks missing the real danger - people capable of violence who don’t fit a neat category. We should be supporting services to intervene early, not criminalising peaceful protest while harm goes unchecked.

5 3

I’m very disappointed. The Assisted Dying Bill, backed by the Commons and supported by the public, has been dragged out and blocked in the Lords. The government needs to take charge - bring it back and let it be properly debated and decided.

26 11

The Starmer–Mandelson–Palantir story raises serious questions about how power is being used. A private meeting, a £240m contract without competition - the public deserves answers and full transparency now.

15 7

It was great to meet and chat with Tom Walker — better known as Jonathan Pie on social media. I asked him what drives his famous rants about the government, and he asked me a couple of questions about the House of Lords and the Green Party.

29 10

We have known the damage bottom trawling causes, destroying entire marine ecosystems and undermining future food security. The government must act to protect our seas and end practices that harm our natural world.

19 4

We have known the damage bottom trawling causes, destroying entire marine ecosystems and undermining future food security. The government must act to protect our seas and end practices that harm our natural world.

12 4

More boats are setting off to take aid to Gaza, with people risking their lives to do what should never have been left to them It should be governments ensuring protection and aid. It’s time they stepped up and acted.

13 4

I’m in Hampshire with clean water campaigners at a reservoir project meant to provide fresh, clean water Southern Water now plans to pump effluent into it. This isn’t recycling — it’s pollution, and it must be stopped

6 4

When peaceful protest is treated as a crime, something has gone badly wrong. Human rights cannot be selective. We must defend the right to protest and ensure the law targets violence — not those speaking out.

9 3

A wide range of expert organisations are warning about the risks in youth diversion orders as currently drafted. We should be listening carefully. If these orders are introduced, they must be based on what actually works for children — realistic, fair, and tailored to the individual.

4 1

I’m standing with mothers on hunger strike outside Parliament, calling for action — because climate action is food security, and children must be protected. No child should ever go hungry.

26 11

Hannah Spencer’s victory in Gorton and Denton was such an extraordinary moment — I was in tears when the result was announced. Zack Polanski’s leadership is bringing real energy and momentum to the Greens, and I’m confident we’ll see that reflected in the upcoming local elections.

20 5

Debating major legislation until 20 past midnight is not good lawmaking. The Crime and Policing Bill affects protest and free speech. It deserves careful scrutiny, not rushed late-night sessions.

12 3

A greener Wales cannot mean allowing dredging in marine protected areas. Our seas should be protected, not treated as a resource to be exploited. #Wales #ProtectNature

9 2

My thoughts are with British Iranians and their loved ones. We need safe and legal routes for those seeking refuge, and a serious commitment to peace. Bombs will not deliver democracy. Diplomacy must lead the way.

19 2

This week we have been debating the Crime and Policing Bill, at report stage, in the House of Lords. It is quite astonishing that Labour has not only kept Tory restrictions on protest - but expanded them. Making peaceful protest harder it not the change people were promised.

31 15

Bombing a country and killing civilians is not a path to democracy. The United States’ attack is illegal and brutal, and the UK must not be dragged into yet another disastrous war in the Middle East.

30 7

Alerted by Save the Beagles, we’ve learned that Labour has classed animal testing labs as part of the national infrastructure. That shields them from scrutiny and protest. It’s the opposite of what Labour promised the public: stronger animal welfare.

12 8

Gorton and Denton was seismic — and I want to thank every person who made it happen. Every leaflet delivered, every door knocked, every voter persuaded. You built this victory. I look forward to welcoming our new MP, Hannah Spencer, to Westminster on Monday! 💚

42 10

A new offence of “misleading the public” sounds like progress — and yes, it would apply to ministers and even the Prime Minister. But ordinary MPs and peers in the House of Lords are excluded. Why should honesty not apply to all of us in Parliament? I’ll be pressing the government on this.

21 5

Nature is rampant here on Brownsea Island; salt marsh, little forests, extraordinary birdlife and creatures thriving in every corner. Huge thanks to Dorset Wildlife Trust for protecting this precious part of our natural heritage. If you want to experience nature on your doorstep, this is the place.

10 3

The Greens led the attempt in the Lords to stop Palestine Action being proscribed. I explain how Keir Starmer, as a lawyer, defended peace campaigners. Now as PM he bans them. I welcome the court decision today and hope the government will let the ban drop.

25 8

This Bill talks about devolution, but vague wording risks weak participation. Amendment 60 would set clear minimum standards so communities genuinely shape decisions. #LocalDemocracy #CommunityVoice

11 5

Local government reorganisation should not be rushed through from the centre and dressed up as devolution. Change can work — but only when it has local consent. If ministers truly believe in devolution, they must trust communities to shape their own future. #LocalDemocracy #Devolution

15 6

Air pollution and climate risks fall hardest on those with the least power to avoid them — that is a driver of health inequality. Strategic authorities must align every decision on transport, housing and planning with our legal climate and clean air duties. #CleanAir #ClimateJustice

23 8

Economic crime is becoming more international and more sophisticated. Our response should be planned, proactive, and properly funded.

11 2

Using children as covert police sources, including in cases involving drugs and firearms, raises profound ethical and safeguarding concerns. Children should never be placed by the state into dangerous criminal environments. Ever. But it happens, and without robust, independent oversight.

3 2

Delighted to be in Manchester today supporting Hannah Spencer for the Gorton and Denton by-election and seeing the energy of volunteers working together to get our Green message out there! 💚

98 28

I am delighted to welcome councillor Linda Lusingu to the Green Party. Linda is making history as our first ever councillor in Barnet – and I’m proud to stand with her as she sends the Green message of hope not hate, to her constituents

62 8

Pavement parking rude and hazardous for us all and I loathe it.

6 1

No heating in Parliament today. Proof we need more plumbers — starting with Hannah Spencer in Gorton and Denton.

42 10

Criminal law should punish intention or recklessness — not how others might interpret clothing, images or symbols. Casting such a wide net risks catching protest, journalism and art. Parliament should think again.

17 7

With FIFA World Cup matches due to be played in 11 US cities, the shooting of innocent people by ICE raises serious concerns about the safety of fans travelling to America, especially those at risk of racial profiling.

84 44

Ahead of the CND conference on Sunday, it’s worth asking how “independent” Britain’s nuclear deterrent really is. If Trident relies on US missiles, software and refurbishment, can we truly claim national control?

19 6

Pre-emptively targeting people for where they are rather than what they’ve done is a profound assault on the right to peaceful protest. Ministers must explain why sweeping new police powers are needed when targeted ones already exist.

29 7

Successive governments have chipped away at protest rights. With the Crime and Policing Bill in committee stage at the House of Lords this week, I’ll be pushing back.

14 0

The End of Life Bill is too important to allow opponents to talk it out. MPs have voted and the Lords has the job of suggesting amendments, but peers must send it back to the Commons. @greenjennyjones.bsky.social happy to start earlier on a Friday and get it done.

28 8

Happy Christmas from your two Green Party peers in the House of Lords! 🎄

15 2

There is nothing honourable about abuse. As the Freedom Charity rightly says, there is no honour in it. We should call it what it is: dishonour abuse — and shift shame from survivors to perpetrators.

3 1

I’m at Bronzefield Prison near Heathrow, where hunger strikes linked to protests over Palestine are taking place. One prisoner, Qesser Zuhrah, has become seriously unwell. We urgently need confirmation that basic humanity is being respected for her and for others on hunger strike.

58 29

While Drax claims it no longer sources from old growth deferral areas, the majority of British Columbia’s old growth forests fall outside these areas. Will the Government advise Ofgem to exclude these forests from subsidies?

4 0

The police’s facial recognition algorithm has been shown to be flawed, racially biased and biased against women. A system like that should be paused immediately until it can be properly fixed.

70 32

Why hasn't Labour just replaced the Lords with a 2nd chamber elected by PR? Instead we have more 30 more peers nominated by Labour, Conservative and Lib Dems. A PR elected chamber would have over fifty green members based upon the 2024 election result

129 38

"You can no more have sustainable aviation than a crocodile with a conscience." To reach net zero for aviation we would need at least half farming land devoted to jet fuel. That means higher prices for food in shops. Tax frequent flyers and private jets

15 6

A government running scared of the voters will want to cancel elections. When @greenjennyjones.bsky.social tried to stop the government cancelling the 2025 local elections, the other parties failed to back her. Now Ministers want to cancel more elections in 2026.

8 1

Putting in new development rights to require walking and cycling routes is quick, cheap and essential for public health. Ministers have the power to do this now - so why aren't they?

18 6

Tate staff are facing derisory pay offers and needless redundancies, and it's no surprise they’ve had to go on strike. I’m proud to stand with Green Party’s trade union reps and the workers demanding fair treatment.

2 0

Developers regularly promise social or affordable housing and then quietly drop those commitments once permission is granted. I’ve asked the Government about this because the penalties simply aren’t strong enough to make them keep their promises.

4 0

Protecting our chalk streams should never have been controversial — yet the amendment fell because the government refused to act and the Tories, the official opposition, wouldn’t back it. I’ll keep pressing for real protections for these precious ecosystems.

28 10

“Our weather is becoming more erratic and floods more severe. Is the Government speeding up sustainable drainage systems, and will this commitment appear in the Water White Paper?” I asked the minister why drainage measures are still missing — and whether the Water White Paper will change that.

4 0

It's impossible to be sustainable if you fly and thinking that the aviation companies have any sort of idea how to make planet safer, is like expecting a crocodile to have a conscience. I look forward to putting these points to the government when we discuss the Aviation Fuel Bill in the Lords.

19 6

If the government want to reduce the prison population, then don't early release men guilty of domestic abuse, focus on releasing the climate campaigners and those arrested for sitting peacefully with signs supporting Palestine Action.

24 6

The aviation industry will never be environmentally sustainable — and yet the 15% who take 70% of flights pay no fuel duty. Why not tax frequent flyers, make trains cheaper, and leave EV drivers alone? #ClimateJustice #FairTravel

13 7

The Sentencing Bill aims to reduce the prison population — a welcome goal given our overcrowded prisons. But it risks adding complexity without addressing the real injustice of IPP prisoners still trapped beyond their sentences. #JusticeReform #PrisonReform

26 12

Southern water failed (again). "When will the government accept that the water companies are incompetent, badly managed and should be nationalised?" Cunliffe report was deliberately excluded from discussing public ownership @greenjennyjones.bsky.social

21 7

The House of Lords has started its scrutiny of the Government’s Crime and Policing Bill — a vast and, in many areas, unnecessary expansion of police powers. It risks criminalising protest and deepening inequality. We’ll push for vital changes. #CrimeAndPolicingBill #HumanRights

21 10

We have three vital Lords amendments coming to the Commons: brownfield-first development, protection for chalk streams, and stopping “pay-to-pollute” deals. Please lobby your MP — especially Labour MPs — and urge them to back all three. #ProtectNature #CleanWater

34 17

Water companies already have 12,000 criminal convictions. If that doesn’t meet the bar for “not fit to operate”, what does?

46 30

Part 3 of the Planning Bill weakens protections for nature and hands power to developers. I signed 38 Tory amendments to stop it — and they still backed down. That’s not opposition. That’s cowardice. #ProtectNature #DontTrusttheTories

11 6

Statues of Gandhi remind us that protest is a part of a healthy democracy — so why is the state putting peaceful protesters behind bars? We must reclaim our right to protest. #RighttoProtest #PalestineAction

14 7

Bulldozers over bats and beavers — that’s this government’s choice. Labour talks green, but their actions don't. Nature deserves better. #NatureProtection #GreenParty

19 8

Put forward a practical set of ideas (thank you Manchester University) on new developments recovering and using storm water and saving money on bills. Labour rejected, but lots of votes from Lib Dems, crossbench and even some Tories. Labour ignoring good ideas @GreenJennyJones

8 3

Good luck to Gareth Hughes our candidate in Caerphilly by-election! 💚🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

15 1

“The government wants to let developers do what they like — and we all lose out.” Part 3 of the Planning Bill must be stopped. #ProtectNature #HouseOfLords

21 6

Labour is proving even more authoritarian than the Tories. The decision to proscribe Palestine Action is an attack on dissent and democracy itself. When a government criminalises protest, it exposes its own complicity.

12 2

How can this government be so heartless as to deny families the right to be together? Allowing the right wing to blame asylum seekers for housing shortages or NHS pressures is cowardly. Time to show some backbone — and some basic humanity.

18 5

Delighted my amendment to the Bus Services Bill was accepted. This is the first step towards better buses for rural areas, cutting isolation, pollution and car dependency. Progress that pays off in every way.

9 0

Approving a second runway at Gatwick in a climate emergency is madness. The richest 1% take half the flights, yet Labour ignore the climate science and backs more aviation expansion. #Gatwick | #ClimateCrisis

30 8

“I’m fed up with listening to right wing clap trap.” ⁦ Jenny trying to establish facts rather than fear and paranoia when discussing immigration.

45 7

Today Sat 6 September, another day of protest about Govt's repressive laws, yet its lack of courage in not imposing sanctions on Israel. #GazaGenocide So many brave people out there.

14 1

Questioning Minister on 200+ peaceful protestors against what Israel is doing in Gaza, who were arrested under terrorism laws for alledgedly supporting Palestine Action. @greenjennyjones.bsky.social "Not appropriate for the Minister to stand here and say that it is none of his business."

10 6

"Clamp them all" The US government have refused to pay the congestion charge for over twenty years @GreenJennyJones Londoners have to pay this, other embassies do, so why not #Trump ? Time for action.

9 1

Ombudsman recommends setting up National Tenants organisation to improve landlord accountability @GreenJennyJones presses the government to act quicker. #grenfelltower

6 1

More today on Lords Reform today and getting rid of hereditory peers @GreenJennyJones Greens have put a bill to have an elected chamber, with PR, every year since 2013. Current Labour Bill is too tame

41 10

A progressive government would end discrimination against disabled people who rent and allow them to make minor adaptations. "These are simple changes." @greenjennyjones.bsky.social Hope Labour adopts these amendments. The welfare changes show what happens when they don't.

44 13

Britains housing has not been designed for disabled people . Putting amendment today allowing people to make minor adapations to meet their needs and live happier lives. Hope Labour listen

110 27

When I hear that businesses have stopped supplying arms to the Israeli military in Gaza, that makes me happy @greenjennyjones.bsky.social If the government wants Palestine Action to disappear, then they should stop all arm sales to Israel. Proscription of PA is censorship

12 4

Voting starts on Renters Rights today @greenjennyjones.bsky.social hoping the government does the right thing to stop rent rises linked to government energy efficiency grants.

2 2

The Prime Minister has declared war on the blockers and zealots. The truth is that these are just local people who stand up and object when a river is being polluted by an intensive chicken farm; or woodland is threatened

84 28

Greens argue for right house in right place, but this government is giving us the wrong type of house in any old place that the developers want at whatever profit the developers feel they can charge in order to boost their private profits @greenjennyjones.bsky.social

10 2

"For a passionate green who spent first 18 years of her life in a council house, this Planning Bill does nothing to make me happy, but puts a smile on the faces of big developers" @greenjennyjones.bsky.social ones It squashes newts and builds houses for the well off. We need social housing.

17 6

Collective bargaining is a way of making the world of work fairer @greenjennyjones.bsky.social In a healthy economy there is absolutely no place for poverty. Our 1:10 pay ratio amendment will address inequality. Rich people will just buy less yachts.

65 19

Whether you are descended from huguenots, German jews, or Ugandan asians, or other families who had fled persecution @greenjennyjones.bsky.social refugees want to earn a living and make a contribution. It is the government who won't let them. The problem is not refugees it's government.

8 1

Labour's new rule. A refugee will be rejected for 'bad character' if they arrive by boat, or in back of a truck. But without safe routes, the ones with 'good character' can never get here. @greenjennyjones.bsky.social

42 9

Self employed and sub contractors can spot wrongdoing and bad practice as well as employees, but not covered by outdated whistle blower laws. Jenny wants update to end whistle blowers being blacklisted and left vulnerable
