And finally, here’s the result of the hard work of the dedicated volunteers - 2 chicks for these Variable Oystercatchers whose nest was fenced off while they were incubating their eggs. Thanks to the conservation heroes of Ohiwa! 9/9

We watched as she quickly returned to the nest scrape. NZ Dotterels are almost entirely conservation dependent – stable or declining where unmanaged, increasing where managed (ie wardening, advocacy and nest fencing) 7/9

On NYE I was out on Ohiwa Spit and saw this endangered NZ Dotterel on the beach. It had been disturbed by vehicles (illegally) driving past.
