A speaker at last Saturday's far-right rally pointed at Parliament and demanded Islam be removed from this building. Lib Dem peer Shaffaq Mohammed brought that moment to the Lords and what it meant for his sons who serve this country.

The Conservatives' response to far-right Islamophobia is whataboutism. Meral Hussein-Ece, Lib Dem equalities spokesperson, had a different answer. Prosecute the hate speech that would trigger outrage if it targeted any other group. Choose your fighter.

The immigration minister couldn't say how tall the London Eye is — yet it's a question migrants must answer to settle in Britain. Don Foster, Lib Dem peer and chair of the Justice and Home Affairs Committee, challenged him on it.

Two thirds of those who voted in 2024 didn't vote for this Government, yet it acts like it has a mandate from the whole country. Our Leader in the Lords, Jeremy Purvis, is calling for real democratic reform.

New Lib Dem Peer Mike Dixon used his maiden speech to make a simple case: the best decisions come from truly understanding people. From Citizens Advice to drug and alcohol services, he has spent a career proving it.

12 5

Rhiannon Leaman's maiden speech was personal as well as political. As a parent, she knows first-hand what it means to wait years for a diagnosis. She spoke for every family still fighting a system that was supposed to be on their side.

Brexit promised to protect our creative industries, then left them out of the trade deal entirely. Tours cancelled. Exports lost. A generation of talent gone. Paul Strasburger sets the record straight.

A £90 billion Brexit black hole. An out-of-date manifesto. A government too timid to act. Chris Fox makes the case in the Lords for bolder leadership on Europe.

⚠️ "Labour's red lines are holding Britain back." Closer ties mean better trade with our nearest neighbours, EU e-gates for British holidaymakers, and border police with access to EU data. In Lords today, Chris Fox is pushing Labour to be bolder on Europe.

📢 "You can't be at the heart of something from the outside, lead it with red lines, or get the advantages when you're not in it. EU membership remains the goal." Responding to the King's Speech, Lords leader Jeremy Purvis presses the case for closer EU ties.

Coastal towns. Rural villages. Left out of the Government's Devolution Bill. Baroness Cathy Bakewell and Lib Dem peers wouldn't accept it. We pushed until ministers backed down. Coastal & rural communities are now written into the Bill.

How did the PM end up appointing Mandelson? Vetting officer → FCDO official → Olly Robbins → Prime Minister. Not one of them had seen the paperwork. Our peer @markpackuk.bsky.social sets out the "daisy chain" that should never have happened.

Big announcements on defence spending mean nothing if the money doesn't move. Our peer, Chris Fox warns British businesses are going to go bust waiting, and our allies in Estonia are publicly saying the UK is too slow.

See Tim's speech from yesterday:

Medical misogyny is still the norm. Women aren't listened to. Maternity failures repeat across the country. Perinatal mortality is rising. We want every maternity unit rated good or outstanding with one-to-one midwifery guaranteed. Britain should be the safest place in the world to give birth.

10 people deciding for a city of 84 councillors. That was Sheffield under the "strong leader" model and Labour wants to force it on every council in England. If the Bill is called the Community Empowerment Bill, why isn't it empowering communities? Let local people decide.

12 4

Rural England is the largest part of the country and the most ignored. Rural communities deserve the same opportunities as everyone else, written into law, not tucked away in optional guidance.

Lib Dems: 8 of the top 10 for recycling in England. Greens: Their only majority council ranks 162nd Talk is cheap. Recycling rates aren't.

In the Lords, the Lib Dem leader Jeremy Purvis set out how Mandelson stayed at Epstein's house while he was in jail, and later joined a Ghislaine Maxwell ocean charity funded by Epstein. That warning was on the PM's desk before the announcement. He chose to disregard it.
