I had another close-encounter with a heron leaving the allotments this evening. Unfortunately, I had just spent 20 mins using an electric strimmer, so my hands were still shaking from the vibration. Still, it's always exciting to see! #greyheron #heron #birdsoftheworld | #kent #england

I spent more time than I care to remember trying to capture this Nettle explosively shedding its pollen in my back yard this afternoon. I'm not sure it was worth it πŸ˜‚ #commonnettle #stingingnettle #wildflowers | #kent #england

20 secs of an Eurasian coot (Fulica atra) feeding and marshalling the troops 😍 #eurasiancoot #commoncoot #chicks | #kent #england

That pigeon from yesterday definitely knew I was filming him! 😁 #pigeons | #kent #england

It's hard to make out unless you have the volume right up, but a fair amount of "cooing" went along with this performance πŸ™‚ A City Dove (probably my favourite name for them) doing what they do best 😍 #citydove #citypigeon #streetpigeon #feralpigeon #rockdove | #kent #england

45 seconds of me playing a raspy whistle this evening at the allotment 🫨 Someone was having an argument on their phone in the small park behind, and by the time they were done the whistle was sounding bad. Excuses, eh? Oh, and as Bob Dylan sang: "We're idiots babe, we can hardly dress ourselves!" 😊

My week and a half looking after Joey is up, and it was a pleasure! Here he is having a preen in anticipation of his dad returning from his hols πŸ₯°

I managed to capture Joey the Budgerigar having a singsong to himself πŸ₯° I couldn't get any closer, or he would stop πŸ˜” #budgies #birds

This big'n I'm pretty sure is a common carp, but I'm prepared to be corrected 😁 #freshwaterfish #fish | #kent #england

The warm weather over the last few days really has brought out the fish in the large pond at the allotments. Lots of movement! Rudd? I do continue hopeless at my fish identification πŸ™‚

Full fins ahead! The "big boy" koi in the largest of the allotment ponds heads for the shelter of the footbridge. They came out the other side in a much more leisurely fashion (Unfortunately, I couldn't get my phone to focus properly in the shade) #koicarp #koi #carp #fish | #kent #england

Exit stage right.. furtively. I think this male Eurasian Blackbird knew he was on camera 😊 Full zoom on my phone this afternoon from my friend's kitchen door. I've narrowed the aspect and "stabilised" the video πŸ‘ #birdsoftheworld #birds | #kent #england

I did manage a five minute sit down to appreciate the birdsong before I left (I was only there 3/4 of an hour all told) 😊 #eveningchorus #birdsong #birdsoftheworld #birds | #kent #england

One from yesterday on my short walk home from the allotments. I was impressed with how alert this drake mallard was when he heard someone training their puppy πŸ•πŸ¦† The hen wasn't so bothered πŸ™‚ #mallards #birdsoftheworld #birds | #kent #england

Twelve seconds of the gentle rain this evening at the allotments. We really need more, as it only lasted a few hours, and it's the first we've had this month πŸ˜” #allotmentgardening #allotments #gardening | #kent #england

I thought this was pretty impressive for full-zoom on my phone, sitting in the exact same spot as from where I took the photo. Small "flatties" (juvenile flatfish) are its main prey here, I think.

It froze when it came close to the bank, having spotted me, I reckon. Somebody hasn't told them that this tactic doesn't work when you're bright orange! 😁

I enjoyed watching this koi feeding on the algae on the bottom of the large pond at the allotments this evening. Unfortunately, or fortunately (depending on the viewpt) they are under discussion of being moved. As can be seen in the vid the pond is in danger of silting up πŸ˜” #koi #carp #kent #england

I thought to have a go at fooling the Merlin Bird ID app with my "impression" of a Eurasian Collared Dove down at the allotment this late afternoon 😁 Did I manage to? I found myself having to lie down on the grass path after 20 mins at the allotment this afternoon. I really am unfit! πŸ˜” On the positive side I was rewarded by noticing how these sycamore seeds, caught in the net roof of a neighbour's fruit cage, would dance in the breeze 😍 #allotmentgardening

Even though it was overcast, I thought the gentle ripples on the big pond at the allotments was worth a short video. Pity about the wind noise, but it was as peaceful as it looks 😍 #allotment #pond #birdsong #kent #england

Here's a short video I took of her together with the male bird. I don't know if it's the angle causing a foreshortening effect, but he does appear much larger than I remember 😳 #pigeons #birdsoftheworld #birds
