Queens was devastated by COVID, exposing deep public health inequities in immigrant & working-class communities. Today I asked @mayor.nyc.gov about NYC’s Article 6 cut from 36% to 20% — costing us $90M a year. I am fighting to restore full funding. Public health isn’t optional.🩺

Last Thursday, at 26 Federal Plaza, I was arrested w colleagues for demanding ICE be held accountable for inhumane conditions. I held Dino—our beloved neighbor & restaurant worker, deported & torn from his wife & 3 kids—in my heart. NY must pass #NY4All & NYC must pass the Trust Act

AND he mentioned my bill with Senator Samra Brouk A697/S1714 to prohibit the use of the term “excited delirium” as a diagnosis, label, or cause of death. Some states have already passed similar bills. It's time we do the same.

NEW: I spoke to Shantel Destra on @nynowpbs.bsky.social about my bill with Senator Gustavo Rivera to eliminate costs for asthma inhalers. It shouldn’t cost so much to breathe.

Our trans communities are NOT alone! And we will not let them be scapegoated because of political cowardice. Not in NY or anywhere. We demand that as our trans neighbors are under attack we fight back! And we fight back by investing in resources, care, and protections.

Last week many of us joined advocates to call for action on SNAP skimming. Over 100,000 New Yorkers have had their public benefits stolen and it’s costing taxpayers millions of dollars. We must establish a victims compensation fund to restore benefits & implement EMV cards.

For years, NYC & by extension @nychealthy.bsky.social has suffered a 2019 Cuomo cut to our city public health $. NYC was the only one who got cut. Article 6 $ supports critical programs NYC needs to combat health crises. This is unjust and dangerous. It must be restored.

During our transit hearing I asked @mta.info Chairman Lieber about raising the threshold of eligibility for the fair fares program for reduced price Metrocards for low-income NYers. The MTA wants it. It's on the NYC Mayor to get it done. Until then I have a bill on it. @pcac.org

Today I joined Dan Mannarino & Hazel Sanchez on Pix 11 as we wrap up Human Trafficking Awareness Month. As Chair of the Subcommittee on Human Trafficking, I’ll be working to pass my bill to provide undocumented victims of crime with temporary medical + safety net assistance.
