If you’re scratching your head at how removing laws about species at risk, environmental assessments, and fisheries constitute “national interest,” you’re not alone. We're running out of time to stop this attack on the #climate and #nature. Take action: www.wildernesscommittee.org/take-action/...

We’re building a community for old-growth 🌲 The reality of any fight is that you can’t do it alone. And we don’t want you to have to advocate for old-grown by yourself. What are you waiting for? DM us to get involved! Or visit: www.wildernesscommittee.org/form/organize-for-old-growth-non-sign

If planning years-long fossil fuel projects in 2026 feels wrong... that's because it is. #CDNpoli Prime Minister Carney's cuts to nature and climate sure sting when you know where the money is going: major construction projects for fossil fuel corps. Take action: Wildernesscommittee.org/BankOnNature

7 5

Crown corps, public institutions & the federal cabinet are deciding which fossil fuel projects get YOUR tax dollars - including #LNG expansions in B.C. Tell them to fund transit, healthcare & #cleanenergy instead. No public money for #fossilfuels ❌ ⛽️ www.wildernesscommittee.org/endlngsubsidies

Wasaga Beach piping plover update!🐦 The town's announcement said they had a plan to protect the plovers, but the details are scarce. Is this greenwashing? Does the town have the capacity and resources to protect the plovers? #Onpoli #Birdsky Take Action: WildernessCommittee.org/PloverEmergency

Prime Minister Carney's cuts to the environment will be devastating for wilderness and wildlife. Less money and less staff means less climate action and less protected nature. Take action: www.wildernesscommittee.org/take-action/... Read the report: www.wildernesscommittee.org/publication/...

Parmar's new bill is old news - and like usual, it's bad news for forests. 🌲 Bill 14 is nothing new. It's the same 90s playbook: log more, log faster, make money for the big guys and leave communities in the dust. #OldGrowth #BCpoli

🐣In just a few weeks piping plovers will arrive at Wasaga Beach to seek out suitable nesting sites to raise their babies! With all provincial protections scrapped, it falls on Wasaga Beach mayor and council to commit to a strong plan to protect them. Tell them: WildernessCommittee.org/WasagaBeach

Hot new trend in BC politics: announce a forestry review, wait, announce another review, repeat. Politicians call it governance. We call it "talk and log" 🪓🌲 On the ground? Just stumps and vanishing habitat for endangered species. The reviews aren't saving the trees. #oldgrowth #bcpoli

6 6

The BC NDP government is cutting environmental assessments to fast-track industrial megaprojects. That means compressed timelines for project reviews and fewer opportunities for the public, First Nations, and experts to weigh in. 1/2 🧵 #bcpoli #environment

B.C.'s Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions, Adrian Dix, has responded to our petition against LNG expansion. The letter is heavy on reassuring language and light on real commitments. #bcpoli #fossilfuel

Introducing: Nature Can’t Afford the Banker This paper compiles leading economic research showing how protecting nature and tackling climate change strengthens Canada’s economy. 🌱📈 There are no economic excuses for abandoning nature! Read it here: wildernesscommittee.org/NatureCantAffordBanker

Are you a gardener? Do you know about peat-free gardening alternatives? Manitoba is 1/3 peatlands, and they're not protected from destructive industrial peat mining for horticulture. Stay tuned to hear more about the peat alternatives that can help your garden be a climate hero!

WHO'S EXCITED FOR PLANTING?🤩💚🌱 Have you started your seeds yet? What are you planting this year? Are you trying anything new? We'll be starting some peat-free seedlings in the office and keep you up to date so you can watch them grow with us! #Garden #Soil #Seedlings

We’re taking the Canadian gov to court 📣 For 11 years, it has delayed mapping critical habitat for Southern Mountain #Caribou while logging + industrial development continues. #cdnpoli With @ecojusticecanada.bsky.social , @stand.earth & @wildsight.bsky.social, we’re demanding action.

No old-growth = no spotted owls. These birds have evolved alongside #OldGrowth forests to develop a hunting technique that cannot be replicated in the tree plantations that logging companies and governments replace clearcuts with. If old-growth forests are gone, the #owls are gone (for good).

4 2

Since 2022 we’ve been working to survey potential old-growth forests in the 65% of Algonquin Provincial Park that is open to logging. We found trees up to 427 years old, more than 3 times older than the park itself. Most are unprotected, and one stand is already on the chopping block. #OldGrowth

6 1

#Oilandgas produce 1/5th of B.C.’s carbon pollution, more than all other industries combined. Proposed LNG plants would more than double the sector’s pollution and make it impossible for B.C. to meet its #climate targets. #climatecrisis

2 2

Have you heard? Nature rules!🌲 📍Porcupine Hills, Manitoba. #Manitoba needs to expand parks and protected areas according to nature's rules, including: Protect habitat for biodiversity. Ask decision-makers to grow parks and protected areas (the right way!) here: WildernessCommittee.org/NatureRules

3 1

No forests = no caribou. Southern mountain #caribou are being pushed toward extinction as logging continues in their core #habitat — and the chainsaws are already running. #oldgrowth Tell B.C. to stop logging caribou habitat now 👉 WildernessCommittee.org/Caribou

6 7

That’s right. The B.C. government is planning to log critical #spottedowl habitat and #oldgrowth forest at Fire Lake. This area is federally mapped as essential for the survival of the endangered northern spotted owl, so why did we find proposed cutblocks in the provincial government's maps?

5 1

Happy holidays, we'll see you in the new year to protect more nature! Our offices will be closed until January 5th, but you can still make a year-end gift to ensure we can sustain the fight for nature into the new year and beyond. Wildernesscommittee.org/Donate

6 1

June 2025: We released a report warning that the B.C. government planned to log critical caribou habitat. October 2025: The logging has already begun. Southern mountain caribou are hanging on by a thread, and the B.C. government is still chipping away at their old-growth habitat.

Spotted owls (and other at-risk species) can’t survive without old-growth forests. So why is the Carney government handing $1.2B to the forest industry in the same year it finally released a recovery plan that requires protecting old-growth habitat? These two things don’t add up.

3 2

Good news for Duck Mountain provincial park is also good news for the #Manitoba office storage room! The last of this giant stack of files is headed for the recycler now. We couldn’t be happier to see them go, along with Louisiana Pacific’s power over our forests. 🎄 Bye! We won’t miss you!

2 1

Did we hear that right? Is Forest Minister Parmar trying to gaslight us? 🤔 Every day, irreplaceable #oldgrowth and critical habitat continue to fall while the BC NDP government claims progress. If you’re tired of talk-and-log politics, now’s the moment to act.

6 4

2025 has not been a good year for the climate 😵‍💫 Across Canada, governments are rolling back environmental protections, using U.S. tariffs as an excuse. The only real path forward? Ending #fossilfuel dependence and rapidly building a renewable energy future. #cdnpoli #climate

11 4

We have a special present for B.C. Forest Minister, Ravi Parmar 🎁 This week, our volunteers got crafty with cards that call out Minister Parmar's misleading claims about #oldgrowth logging and demand real action to protect these irreplaceable forests.

4 1

Sio Silica is back with a whole "new" proposal and the same old bad attitude, having ignored or denied all 3 things the Clean Environment Commission said they needed to move forward. How arrogant can you get? You can tell the #Manitoba government what you think here: WildernessCommittee.org/StopSio

Since Manitobans elected a new government in 2023, we’ve seen an INCREASE in the number of mining claims in provincial parks. #Whiteshell #Manitoba Write your letter and tell Manitoba’s elected officials to #EndParkMining at wildernesscommittee.org/EndParkMining

The BC government claims that the North Coast Transmission Line is for national and public interest, but that doesn't sound right. What would an actual plan for the public interest look like? #climate #bcpoli

3 2

Southern Mountain #Caribou are at-risk of extinction, with several herds now extripated (locally extinct). To top it off, our recent research found that thousands of hectares of old-growth forests are either approved or pending approval for logging across the range of endangered herds. #bcpoli

Should the people who can afford lawyers control who gets to speak out for the public good? We don't think so. Campaigner Eric Reder presented on Bill 23 to the Manitoba legislature on Oct. 8th, and this is just some of what he told them. Catch the whole presentation here: youtu.be/YwPMcBiI2vk

In the fight for the #LemayForest, the Pileated Woodpecker were known to nest in the area. Thankfully, their home was protected just in time for breeding season! This one decided to visit on their way out of town to say "thanks!" #LemayForest #Woodpecker #Birdsky
