Is AI cheaper? Yes and no. There's a very simple paradox at the heart of this question; if you're able to make a shot for $50: - that's a complete paradigm shift and a completely new economy for professional studios - that's completely out of reach for individual creators

I'm convinced that we will soon see some live action / anime hybrid content, especially in vertical formats Actors allow you to capture a very specific performance, specific timing and expressions, and character replacement + style transfer allows you to get an anime output

As a fun little side project, I've been remastering old cinematics with Mago. (For those who don't recognize it, this is Quistis from Final Fantasy VIII, so from around 1999)

A common request I see from directors or animators is the ability to preserve a character's expressiveness, whether it's an actor or animator Usually a lot of work and effort has been put into the shot, to achieve a specific look, a specific smirk, a quick side eye

For all its potential, a lot of AI content ends up being pretty bland It's a little disappointing but really shows that creativity is the secret sauce; without it, we all end up making simulacra of average sci-fi movies when we could make ethereal ghost angels dance under a starry night

We've been working a lot on AI rendering lately, mostly using our in house Mago Style Transfer model but also a few other APIs. It's an extremely promising workflow: artists and animators keep control, you can quickly preview scenes and you can iterate much faster.

I've been playing around with restoring, colorizing and remastering old footage. So naturally, I took what is arguably the first film ever and remastered with Mago. It worked pretty well!

If you're looking for a 20-minute adventure, Kling 3.0 is now on Mago! My personal advice: use it with the modify frame feature and Nanobanana Pro to create a frame showing exactly what you want to achieve, and add that as a reference frame. Most controllable and cost-efficient workflow.

Right now, there's a strong emphasis on hyper-realistic content in creative AI. We've seen how the performance of image models is evaluated through benchmarks, which is a very strange way of looking at creativity.

A lot of AI focuses on photorealism or a set amount of tropes, such as anime or pseudo-Pixar movies. But the beauty of AI creation is that you can do anything you want. One of the reasons that much of AI content is driven by just a few sources of inspiration really comes down to the artists.

Mago is entering its open beta! A lot of tools on the market do a bit of everything; we chose to do one thing, video to video, but to do it right. At the core of video transformation and stylization is the democratization of VFX and CGI.

Video models can do more than what people think: you can directly go from regular footage to a new environment, but also at the same time simulate wet ground as well as rain or other effects.

Working on a remaster of the original Nosferatu One use case for video to video (and thus Mago) that I didn't think about originally is that there's already a LOT of footage that can be transformed or remastered
