Good news: @councilorgreen.bsky.social, @councilormorillo.bsky.social, and I are introducing a budget package called Services First. The goal is exactly that – protect the basics that Portlanders expect us to deliver, like parks maintenance and fire rescues.

This week, Council passed @councilorkanal.bsky.social's Right to Know Who’s Policing You ordinance. This is about something very basic: if someone is exercising the power to stop, detain, or arrest you, you have a right to know who they are.

When every climate-adjacent service need becomes justification for tapping the Portland Clean Energy Fund, PCEF slowly stops functioning as the transformational climate justice tool voters approved.

Portlanders voted for climate action because they understood that the crisis was real.

Visited Kindness Farm today, an East Portland farm funded through the Portland Clean Energy Fund + Portland Children’s Levy! 🥰 Kids learning outdoors, immigrant families growing food, and community garden plots taking shape. This is exactly what public investment should do for our communities 🌱

I’m thankful for my colleagues who worked together through these long meetings — even against tough odds — and for everyone who’s helped advocate for a people-first budget.

My colleagues and the Mayor suggested I wasn’t working with community on Avalos 2, which would have helped immigrant and refugee communities. My office spent all day making calls to community organizations, local leaders, and advocates who clearly told me the City needed to step up support.

More live music today!

I will always proudly stand in opposition to any attempt to take away funding from our police accountability system. Clark 1 failed, 6-6.

It’s not on the livestream, but Council President Dunphy’s team has helped arrange for some live music before our meetings:

Portlanders voted for REAL police accountability with over 80% support. Now Clark 1 would take $10 million away from the new oversight system before it’s even fully up and running. 😡 📧 Email Council 🗣️ Testify Monday ❌ Tell them: NO on Clark 1 🛑 Don’t raid police oversight $$$ to fund policing!

PCEF is already helping balance the budget!!! Roughly $740M already supports city bureaus & programs. So when City Hall asks for “just a little more” that money comes from future environmental justice investments Portlanders already voted for. 🏛️ Support Avalos 1 📧 Email Council 🗣️ Testify Monday

Our neighbors told us exactly what they need in the 2026 District 1 Budget Survey — and now it’s time for City Hall to listen:

But at the end of the day, we need to keep having a broader conversation about how we build systems that ask those who have the greatest financial flexibility to put in their fair share.

Happy May Day, Portland! 🩷 Working people built every right we have by organizing together. Solidarity forever. ✊🏾

Oversight is a healthy and necessary part of good governance.

🗣️ It's Budget Season, Portland! The Mayor's proposed budget has officially dropped and tomorrow starting at the 9:30am Portland City Council meeting is your first opportunity to weigh in! Sign up for public testimony and stay tuned for more opportunities to be involved in the budget process!

Yesterday, Council passed the Transportation Utility Fee (TUF) ordinance out of committee. I didn’t take my vote lightly - and I want you to hear why. I’ll keep pushing for more progressive revenue options that don’t put the burden on working-class Portlanders to fix a structural deficit.

As we head into this year's budget talks, I want you to hear directly from me about what I told the mayor that I'm fighting for: 🏠Rent assistance and homelessness prevention 🚦Safer roads and basic maintenance ⛑️Community safety 🌳Parks and public spaces 💜Protecting our community
