On a visit to Enstone Airfield, I was lucky enough to get up close to an 80 per cent scale replica of a Second World War photo reconnaissance Spitfire, similar to those that would have flown from RAF Odiham. It was a real pleasure to see the aircraft up close.

A quiet churchyard on the outskirts of Coventry is the resting place of nine Second World War airmen of the Polish Air Force. Buried at St John the Baptist Church, these airmen were members of 308 Polish Fighter Squadron, which was based at the nearby aerodrome.

Standing on the outskirts of Coventry is a memorial to the “Immortal” 29th Division. The memorial marks the spot where King George V reviewed the division’s troops on 12 March 1915, shortly before they embarked for active service at Gallipoli.

Just outside the Mosta Rotunda, officially named the Sanctuary Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady, steps lead down to one of Malta’s many air-raid shelters hewn from the limestone during WWII.
