1 in 3 young people (16-25) young people in the UK have bought performance-enhancing drugs, according to a recent survey by UK Anti-Doping. Today I asked, once again, for a debate in Government time and will be following up with the relevant Minister. 1/3

Yesterday, as Shadow Health Minister, I responded to a debate on the future of community pharmacies. I reiterated concerns that policy changes, including the rise in employers' National Insurance and loss of business rates support, make it harder for pharmacies to survive. 1/3

We've all been horrified to hear of the murder and treatment of 18-year-old Henry Nowak. Today I asked the Home Secretary how she will restore public confidence. You can see my question and her response here 👇

'Every meeting I have [with Labour MPs] is "who can we tax in order to pay benefits to others".' This damning comment, from the now-Work and Pensions Secretary, is buried within the Mandelson files released today. Next time Labour says it will "tread more lightly on your lives", remember this...

Last week, I asked - once again - when Labour will publish the Defence Investment Plan (DIP). We were told it would be published in Autumn 2025.  Since then, Ministers have been asked numerous times when the DIP will be published, only to respond: "it is getting close"...

Good to visit The Hinckley School recently and see progress on the £22.5 million STEAM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths - building 🏫 There’s been a lot of work to get funding agreement with the Department for Education over the line, but construction is finally underway!

"Many people in the sector have made the point to me that they feel taxed enough. I do not know that we would want to add any more to that." This was what the then-Tourism Minister said to me in September. 1/2

Yesterday the Prime Minister confirmed that he's delaying the planned fuel duty hike, saying, "We are backing drivers by extending the freeze in fuel duty for the rest of the year." @Conservatives and I have been calling for this since the start of the Iran conflict. 1/2

On Monday I spoke about my concern, as Shadow Minister for Social Care, around the timetable for social care reform. The Government has made much of the independent review of adult social care, but the final phase is not due to report back until 2028/29. 1/2

When the Government is accused by both the Intelligence & Security Committee and Foreign Affairs Committee for not complying with Parliament's will, you would think the Minister would have a better answer than this...👇

Rumours in the media today that Rachel Reeves is set to announce that Fuel Duty will not rise by 5p as planned. This is welcome, but drivers and businesses need clarity, not speculation. I've been urging the Government to scrap the planned 5p rise and hope something is announced imminently! 1/2

Have you been to the Hinckley BID Town Centre Garden show? It is brilliant! Well done to the BID, the council, and all the businesses and volunteers who have taken part! 3 events in 1, offering something for everyone: 1/3

Yesterday I met with business owners in Hinckley and Bosworth to discuss everything from the economy and recruitment to oil prices. The businesses ranged from manufacturers of hosiery and mattresses used in hospital beds, to a company that develops carbon fibre for things like Formula 1 cars 🏎️

Did you know that a Member of Parliament is 'held hostage' in Buckingham Palace during the State Opening? This tradition - which stems from the time of Charles I, who had a contentious relationship with Parliament - ensures the safe return of the King upon the conclusion of the State Opening. 1/2

A rough road isn't the same as a collapsed bridge. Both slow you down, but one stops you entirely. When speaking about mental health, I believe it's important to distinguish between mental health and mental well-being - and have urged others to do the same. 1/2

Tomorrow, King Charles comes to Parliament to set out the Government's new legislative agenda. What would you want to see included? The Conservatives have produced an alternative King's Speech; you can read it here www.conservatives.com/alternative-...

And they are off!!! 800 runners competing in the Bosworth Half Marathon - incredible to watch! Well done to all those taking part, the families and friends who support, and of course the organisers Desford Striders & volunteers who have put on a brilliant day!

If you weren't able to make the memorial unveiling today, let me talk you through it... In remembrance of the US 376th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion and three men of that unit killed locally in 1944. We will remember them 🇬🇧🇺🇸 Do go and visit to see for yourself.

After last week's vote on whether to refer Starmer to the Privileges Committee over the Mandelson scandal, lots of people have been calling for a vote of no confidence. Here's why a vote wouldn't be successful (Labour has the numbers), and why all eyes are on today's Local Election results 👀👇

‼️ There are no local elections in Leicestershire tomorrow‼️ With all the talk of local elections this week - and what effect the results could have nationally - many people have been asking about local elections and what's happening in Scotland and Wales. I explain more here 👇

Prorogation marks the end of a parliamentary session - all business falls (questions, legislation etc) and the slate is wiped clean unless a bill has a carry over motion to take it into the nee session. You can learn more here: www.parliament.uk/about/how/oc... #politics #parliament

Ahead of tonight's vote on whether to refer the Prime Minister to the Privileges Committee, I closed my speech with the words of Keir Starmer in 2022 when he was calling for a privileges referral. I hope Labour MPs follow the position that Starmer set out in 2022.

If you didn't make it to the #StGeorgesDay parade in #Hinckley yesterday, here is a flavour of what you missed out on! Well done to all who helped out, organised and supported a brilliant day. Especially well done to The Scouts - you guys did yourselves and the town proud!

The response? The Minister dismissed it as “nonsense”. It clearly wasn’t. 5/7

As Shadow Health Minister, I challenged this directly in the Commons, raising risks to patient safety, access to care, and the lack of clarity over who is making decisions. 4/7

We need nuclear, renewables, and oil and gas to secure our energy for decades to come. ‼️ The UK should be using more of our own reserves, which includes supporting domestic oil and gas production in the North Sea. 3/3

📢 60-second survey: speed limits A policy proposal from the Green Party would see speed limits on motorways reduced to 55mph - but what do you think? I'm keen to hear your views. Please fill out my short survey here 👇 www.drlukeevans.org.uk/news/speed-l...

Labour is now spending more on welfare than it is raising in Income Tax. In the 2025/26 financial year, the Treasury raised £331 billion in Income Tax. In the same year, the Government spent £333bn on welfare. As I and many others have pointed out, this is unsustainable. A 🧵

There are three key strands to energy and climate: security, affordability and environmental impacts. I believe that the sooner we move to an energy self-sufficient country, the better. Last year before the current spike in oil and gas, I called for the UK to use more of our own reserves👇

Businesses across the country are struggling under Labour's toxic concoction. Hospitality and retail - such as pubs, cafes, gyms, shops and salons - are hit hard by increases in employers' NICs, business rates, the National Living Wage and red tape. 1/2

Yesterday, as Shadow Health Minister, I responded to the debate on Endometriosis Services. It was an opportunity, during Endometriosis Awareness Month, to raise questions around access, work to reduce diagnosis times and the review of the 2022 Women's Health Strategy. 1/2

Since Labour announced it last year, many drivers will have heard about the pay-per-mile levy on electric vehicles (3p per mile) and hybrids (1.5p). While the consultation is open, many people are still asking... 🌍 How is the mileage calculated if you travel abroad? 1/3

A huge well done to Sharon, from Hinckley Parks Primary, who shaved her head this morning to raise funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK in memory of her mum, who died five years ago today. If you’d like to donate, you can do so here: fundraise.pancreaticcancer.org.uk/fundraisers/...

I know many people on heating oil will be concerned about limited support from the Govt. This follows Monday's news that the £53m would be for people in low-income households only. I raised this today, and asked about support for people who aren't eligible for the fund 👇 1/2

As MPs debate the Courts Bill and the restriction of jury trials again today, I'm reminded of this bombshell statement from the Minister in the last debate... The Courts Minister admitted it wasn't about backlogs - but ideology. Listen 👇

Constituents have written to me about the sudden increase in the cost of heating oil, for example from 55p per litre to 132p, with minimum order quantities also increasing from 500 litres to 900 litres! Yesterday the Chancellor came to the Commons to talk about the rising energy costs. 1/4

Many people have raised concerns with me about the number of homes being converted into HMOs in our area, particularly Hinckley. As I posted a couple of weeks ago, I have already taken these concerns to the Home Office and both councils. 1/3

This week, during my debate on a Minister for Men and Boys, I raised the question of 'what is a good man?' Society seems to label men too easily as 'toxic'. 1/2

In my debate yesterday on having a Minister for Men and Boys, I raised concerns around what society sees as the definition of a 'good man'. Try asking boys and young men who their role models are... I'm always surprised that many don't have an answer.
