The video evidence shows otherwise. Rosenbaum told Kyle, "If I catch any of you guys ALONE tonight I’m going to fucking kill you." Later, he suddenly surprised Kyle (who was ALONE & en route to extinguish a car fire) from behind a car, chased him & made a grab for the rifle.

There was no evidence presented during the trial to suggest that Kyle pointed the firearm at anyone BEFORE he was attacked. Otherwise, PROVE IT. The prosecution certainly couldn't. Gaige Grosskreutz, who was shot by Kyle, testified that Kyle avoided confrontations all night long.
