Hard to believe that Crimson was just smaller than this squash! When he first arrived in March, 3-week-old Crimson was emaciated and unable to stand due to the significant injuries to his back leg. He still has a long road of recovery ahead, but he’s come a long way already. ❤️ 📸: Keeper Angela

Look who heron team lead Janette spotted on her patrol — an adorable group of fledglings hanging out in downtown Oakland! We’re also celebrating 7 amazing years of the black-crowned night heron as Oakland’s official bird! We are here to help them flourish in their urban habitat.

An update re: the mtn lion seen in SF, which was reported heading twd Oakland Zoo for care. We have lots of experience with puma rescues, but weren't involved w/this case. We applaud the SF orgs & CDFW for safely relocating the puma to a more suitable habitat. 📸: California Dept of Fish & Wildlife

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Lola Tiger.  Lola came to us in 2022, when Oakland Zoo participated in rescuing several large cats from an abandoned roadside zoo in Oklahoma, where they had been living in dismal conditions.
