The #Ebola crisis reminds us how important it is for the United States to fund global health initiatives. As we’ve seen in the past, pandemics do not stop at our borders. I’m fighting with @democrats-appropriations.house.gov to restore funding to USAID and other efforts that keep us safe.
May is also #ALS Awareness Month🧡 Last month, I had the honor of hosting ALS advocates on Capitol Hill. Together, we’re pushing to reauthorize the ACT for ALS: my bill to advances ALS science and helps people living with this disease access treatment.
It’s National Bike to Work Day! Whether it’s out in Chicago or in the halls of Congress, I always enjoy a chance to take my wheels out. I’m going to keep protecting bike lanes and bike infrastructure that keeps our cyclists, drivers, and pedestrians safe🚲
Trump's HUD Secretary said Americans should get "equal rights, not extra rights." We all know Trump and Turner think anti-discrimination laws give LGBTQ+ people "extra rights."
This River Day, I enjoyed cleaning up the Chicago River with Friends of the Chicago River! Together, we can help make the Chicago River cleaner and healthier for the next generation.
I’m so thankful for this community and Cubs Charities’ investment in our kids future. I also want to thank Miguel Amaya, Moises Ballesteros, and Matthew Boyd for stopping by during their busy season⚾️📚 Go, Cubs, go!!!
This week, I spoke up during a markup of the Appropriations Committee’s foreign affairs funding bill. The American people have been crystal clear—they want us to reexamine how we provide aid to foreign countries. This discussion needs to include the aid we provide to Israel.
I recently got to visit Green City Market and hear about their GCM for All program — which allows SNAP recipients to get triple the value of their benefits and access fresh fruits and vegetables.
Happy Earth Day!🌎 As a Co-Chair of @houseseec.bsky.social, I know how important it is that we stop pollution and pass real solutions. That’s why this Earth Day, I’m working to pass the Energy Bills Relief Act.
This weekend I got to visit the Harold L. Washington Hall of Honor at @rooseveltu.bsky.social. As a fellow Roosevelt alumnus, it was great to see the opening of this essential exhibit and learn even more about Mayor Washington's work. Encourage everyone to stop by!
I enjoyed attending all the Easter Egg Hunts last weekend🐰🥚 In a world of chaos, it’s important to try to find joy and help our kids find a sense of normalcy. Hope everyone had a happy (or hoppy) Easter!🐇
I recently joined the Rally Against Peoples Gas because #utility companies are raising rates on Chicagoans—even though their executives are getting big bonuses. We need to stop this and bring down energy prices⚡️🔋
This week I visited the #Mars Headquarters in Chicago. At a time when so many people are out of work, Mars is adding 600 new jobs with a $100 MILLION investment in our city. Thanks, Mars!🍫🍬 #candy #snacks #jobs #chicago
Trump’s war with Iran is making everything more expensive—including our gas right here in Chicago. We need to end this dangerous war and save our economy.
Getting a few shots in before tonight’s annual Congressional Hockey Game for charity🏒🥅 Wish me luck! #hockey #skate
Commuter rail is in crisis. My BRIDGE Act will create a brand-new program to dedicate $1.5 billion annually in fixing commuter rail bridges across the country.🚆
These 100 year-old bridges need an upgrade. My bipartisan BRIDGE Act with @duckworth.senate.gov will establish a brand-new grant program to restore our commuter rail bridges—investing $1.5 billion EVERY YEAR in public transit.
It’s only been 12 days since Trump’s first strike on Iran, and he’s already spent $17.8 BILLION on this war alone. That’s $11,574 of taxpayer money every second. And counting. #iran #war #military
Trump is willingly putting our troops in danger for a war Americans want no part of. Our service members are not disposable. I was proud to cosponsor and vote for the War Powers Resolution to stop this war. I’m going to keep supporting every effort to bring our troops home safely.
