SB-005 is the most important bill I passed this year. This bill creates a state cause of action which allows us to hold federal officials (like 🧊) accountable for violating constitutional rights. Unfortunately, Gov. Polis has threatened to veto this bill. Wish me luck as I meet w/the governor 🥲🤞🏽

Gov. Polis just let me know he is going to veto my bill to make arbitration more fair. Arbitration is a system that is abused by bad actors to take advantage of consumers and workers and this bill was an important step forward.

HB26-1045 is now law!🎉 Last month, the Trump administration stripped protections for disabled tenants, making them choose between losing their assistance animals or losing their housing. House Bill 1045 establishes the strongest protections in the country for disabled tenants.🐶🐱

We must do everything in our power to protect from Donald Trump's extremism and cruelty. HB26-1276 tightens state regulations on immigration detention centers and imposes significant fines if they violate health and environmental safety. Governor Polis must sign it.

We have an obligation to dismantle unjust systems. We do that through building organized power and supporting unions for everyone.

Governor Polis commuted Tina Peters' sentence while thousands of parole-eligible Coloradans are stuck behind bars. Our current prison population management tools are not working. I was proud to sponsor SB36 to address this crisis. This bill is awaiting the governor's signature.

If our governor is so worried about prison population management, I have a bill he can sign. A lighter sentence for Tina Peters just gives a green light to the Trump administration to further attack our democracy.

This legislative session, we once against recognized Nowruz. Of course, this year felt different.

The No Kings Act was defeated yesterday in committee. Senate Bill 176 would have allowed Coloradans to sue federal officials for violating their constitutional rights. As Democrats, we talk a lot about standing up to Trump. This was our chance.

In missing persons cases, it is imperative that all institutions operate swiftly and purposefully to ensure community safety, but instead we’ve seen procedural confusion and jurisdictional conflicts. SB120 updates missing persons reporting requirements to add clarity and quicken response times.

I'm so proud to honor April as Arab American Heritage Month and highlight the contributions of Arab Americans across Colorado.

Horrific stories of medical neglect in immigration detention centers are not unusual. Children are being locked in isolation, denied proper sleep and food, and blocked from healthcare. I was proud to support the Protecting Colorado Families Act, which mandates basic health and safety standards.

Last week, we passed two tax bills! 🙌🏽 These create a more equitable sales tax and property tax system.

I'm saddened that the CO House advanced SB26-121, raising the overtime threshold for farmworkers to 56 hours. When we target farmworkers as the only Coloradans that need to work more than 40 hours to receive overtime pay, we're sending them a message that we value their time less than other workers.

We should never have been in this war.

My first picket with JBS workers was in 2020 when management refused to protect them from COVID-19. 6 years later, it's unacceptable that JBS continues to prioritize profit over safety. With management returning to the table, I hope they listen to workers' demands for safety, dignity, and respect.

Happy Farm Workers Day, formerly known as Cesar Chavez Day. I am proud of the legislature for acting quickly to ensure that this day no longer celebrates a rapist, but rather centers the everyday laborers who made up the farm workers movement.

Thank you to the families who shared their stories and turned their grief into action. When an adult is reported missing, their family should never be told to just wait. Reporting systems must be simplified and higher ed institutions must promptly report missing persons to law enforcement.

Families come in all shapes and sizes, which is why I just passed a bill to protect the rights of Coloradans to have private relationships without fear of violating antiquated laws. I look forward to the Governor's signature on SB26-013!

HB26-1275 died in the Judiciary Committee this week. I'm having a hard time processing this. This bill was a community response to ICE's unlawful actions. This week, we failed to get basic protections across the finish line. But I will keep fighting and doing everything I can for our communities.

Former Representative Armagost kicked off an online harassment campaign against me and my family which was enabled by Republican leadership. I’m speaking out because this type of workplace misconduct keeps women, people of color, and other vulnerable communities out of politics.

Our tax code is set up to benefit the ultra-rich and giant corporations. I’m using my understanding of our rigged system to fight for a tax policy that benefits working people, not just the 1%.

Won't someone think of the poor multinational corporations! 🤧 As a tax attorney, I was trained to find corporations tax loopholes. I was shocked to learn just how our tax system is rigged for the wealthy and well connected.

Republicans are shuttering rural hospitals and throwing countless Coloradans off Medicaid, while enabling their billionaire funders to conceal wealth in offshore accounts. I’m proud to introduce HB25B-1002, which cracks down on tax havens and funds the programs that Coloradans rely on to survive.

We should not be talking about giving the ultra-rich a massive discount while working people pay taxes on every dollar they earn. HB25B-1001 is about fairness, which means ensuring that our tax code isn’t putting the burden on those who are already struggling.

The Democrats are laser focused this session - because we know every dollar we save by closing corporate tax loopholes is another dollar for education, for health care, for food assistance, for the essential services that Coloradans rely on. We’re stepping up to solve this crisis responsibly.

Heading back to the Capitol tomorrow to close corporate tax loopholes and do everything in my power to protect Coloradans from Trump's bill. Republicans want to continue to take from everyday families to pad the pockets of billionaires. It is shameful.

The GOP has blown a $1.2 BILLION hole in our budget. Colorado legislators will come together next week for a special legislative session to do what we can. We will focus on closing corporate tax loopholes, preserving Medicaid and SNAP, and AI regulations. but we have limited toolset due to TABOR.

The Republicans were more concerned with starting a sexual harassment campaign than paying attention to my bill to address price gouging... but the Democrats will continue to show up for our communities. I hope one day women will not have to face this double standard in the workplace.

As the federal EMTALA law crumbles under this administration, SB25-130 stands up to protect life-saving emergency care for pregnant patients.
