For “Nick in Your Neighborhood,” I visited Balena Bagels in Castle Shannon, joined by Rep. Jen Mazzocco. This small-batch bakery is serving up something special in the South Hills with a three-day fermentation process that creates the perfect balance of a soft, chewy inside and a crispy outside.

I was in Harrisburg this week for a budget hearing with the Senate Appropriations Committee. This first step in the budget process helps guide legislators as we work to negotiate a budget that funds everything from schools to public transit to senior services here in Allegheny County and across PA.
The price you pay for a loaf of bread shouldn't depend on when you go to the grocery store and it shouldn't change between getting the loaf off the shelf and getting to the checkout. I've introduced legislation to ban this practice, known as dynamic pricing, for essential goods like eggs and milk.
One of my top priorities is to make sure you have access to the services you need close to where you live. My satellite office at the Plum Borough Library is open to assist you with state services from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM Mon-Fri, with extended hours until 6:00 PM on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
