Tangled Tales (1989) was an adventure game and RPG hybrid for PCs like the Apple II by Origin Systems. After an accident with adamantine dust and a squirrel, your master, Eldritch, punishes you by erasing your spellbook before giving you a chance at redemption! (a tangled thread)

Legends II was largely like its predecessor with a bit more polish such as a new inventory system and showing experience points instead of a vague sense of leveling from surviving fights. Combat was also a bit more brutal as death now forced you to restore from a save instead of just hobbling off.

It was the first game in their Legend of Heroes series but also the sixth game in Nihon Falcom's long-running Dragon Slayer series that began in 1984 on Japanese PCs like the PC-88 and the MSX with an innovative title that became an influential and iconic ancestor of the action RPG genre in Japan.

Combat was turn-based and didn't award experience (only gold). Fortunately, death isn't the end as Eldritch will bring you back in case that happens with a slight scolding. Getting hurt in combat, like being bruised, can even affect your stats like lowering my Charisma to Offensive. Yikes.

BoF3 wasn't a direct sequel to any previous title but still shared familiar ties in other ways such as the main character's draconic abilities and the traditional, turn-based combat system. And like before, Capcom crammed in plenty of story and character along the way.

Later, a new "main character" travelling via space ship (explaining the "Cosmic") arrives to take over the story many years later. Despite not bringing gear comparable to what Van had before leaving the stage (even though she's from a galaxy-spanning civilization), she's filled with determination!

Cosmic Fantasy 2 (1991) was an RPG by Nippon Telenet for the TurboGrafx-CD. Featuring traditional, turn-based combat, a big world, and a story to unwind, players take on the role of Van whose crush, Laura, is kidnapped by a wicked mage for the power she secretly holds! (a space twist thread)

Several years later, Nihon Falcom demonstrated how far they had come with a multimedia makeover of Legend of Heroes' port to the TG-16 CD (1991) featuring more of the amazing music their titles were also renowned for. Mieko Ishikawa, one of Falcom Sound Team's founders, had also worked on the game.
