Harry Jarin for Congress
@harrymd5
Husband, new dad, small business owner, firefighter, not a career politician or lobbyist. Running to represent Maryland's 5th District in Congress.

🚆CALLING ALL NEURODIVERGENT VOTERS OF SOUTHERN MARYLAND🚞 Do you love trains? Well, of course you do! Same here. I'm not officially diagnosed, but my husband says I'm autistic because I force him onto every public transit system we encounter when on vacation. Apparently, that's “a sign.”
Adrian Boafo didn’t even show up again last night at a candidate forum in Mitchellville. This clip is from another PG County forum earlier in May that he skipped, too. Maybe he thinks the $1.8m dumped into this race by AIPAC and crypto means he doesn’t have to face voters directly. I disagree.
For weeks, I’ve been highlighting the huge amounts of money flooding into this race from crypto, Big Tech, and AIPAC to install Oracle lobbyist Adrian Boafo in Congress. This is exactly what the Citizens United decision unleashed, and why Congress must overturn it. Let's stop this open corruption.
As a Democrat myself, I am absolutely fed up with Democrats who say progressive things in public while serving corporate interests behind the scenes. At the candidate forum in Charles County the other night, voters got a very clear contrast between me and my opponent, Big Tech lobbyist Adrian Boafo.
Trump isn’t actually a friend to firefighters. The current administration gutted NIOSH, shut down the firefighter cancer registry, and cut funding for various other safety programs. A lot of firefighters are still winnable voters. But as Democrats, we need to show how we’re going to fight for them.
Big tech lobbyist Adrian Boafo is MIA at the Democrats' forum in Prince George’s County. Don’t worry! He brought an AI version of himself to talk to you, the voters! If this is his idea of representation, I wonder what he expects to do if elected to Congress. It’s too bad his AI bot couldn’t stay.
If you paid more than $1 in taxes last year, you likely paid more in taxes than several dozen of the country’s largest corporations and wealthiest billionaires. I don’t mean a higher effective tax rate, I mean they literally paid $0! So, here are a few basic reforms I'll be pushing for in Congress.
Hungary was one node in a right-wing network spanning from Moscow to Washington. But Hungarians just voted Orbán out after 16 years. Enough people were fed up with the corruption and lies and voted to defend basic democratic principles. We’re going to have to do the same thing here in the US.
We’re here at the Odenton MARC rail station doing some trainspotting. An Amtrak train just passed us heading north to Boston. According to the schedule, it won’t get there for another 7 hours. But what if that trip only took 4 hours, instead? 1h 56 min DC <> NYC, and 1h 56 min more NYC <> Boston.
As Lincoln lay dying in the early morning hours of April 15, 1865, his assassin fled into Charles County, Maryland. John Wilkes Booth had broken his leg and stopped here at the house of Dr. Samuel Mudd, a local doctor whom Booth knew. This is a part of Maryland history we don’t talk about much.
Something I’ve been thinking about a lot as a new dad: we actually do have a strong social safety net in this country - it’s just almost entirely built for senior citizens! When we talk about extending even part of it to working people, young families, or children, it suddenly becomes "too radical."
My opponent, Adrian Boafo, is a lobbyist for Oracle - one of the Big Tech companies most responsible for data center expansion ($260b). Now, the Dem establishment wants him to be the one regulating big tech and utility companies? Isn’t this exactly what’s wrong with our entire political system?!
Somehow, we have $200 billion for an illegal war in Iran, but we don’t have enough money to fix this bridge in Maryland? We should be investing in the kinds of projects that make everyday life safer and easier. In Congress, I’ll push for a more reliable funding stream for infrastructure projects.
Last year, Zelenskyy came to the Oval Office and warned us that, while we may feel insulated from the Ukraine war by an ocean now, “you will feel it in the future.” Trump and JD Vance rebuked him, and soon, Trump was literally rolling out the red carpet for Putin. Now, that warning seems prophetic.
Flew into BWI and poked my head upstairs... what a disaster! You might have the impression that authoritarian systems make the state stronger (“Mussolini made the trains run on time,” that sort of thing). In fact, you are seeing in real time how Trump is intentionally hollowing out our government.
Found an old Newsweek issue from 1977: “The Gas Crisis.” Amazingly, we’re still dealing with the same problem! Sure, some things have changed - print media is basically dead, and the magazine had a menthol cigarette ad on the back - but what hasn’t changed is our dependence on Middle Eastern oil.
Timothy Ostrom: A warehouse of that size should have rail service. Be cheaper to put 500 or so in a boxcar instead of sixty on a bus Jeffrey Rutz: I agree it should be cheaper. Plus the railroad unions should push this. (Real comments on our video w/ @ethanformd.com about ICE's Maryland warehouse)
People got mad when gas prices jumped overnight, but your local Wawa didn’t suddenly get greedy. Gas stations have to price based on replacement cost (what the next shipment costs), not what they paid for what's already underground. That’s why prices jumped overnight once we started bombing Iran.
We made some new “friends” at ICE’s newest facility here in Maryland, a massive warehouse being converted for human cargo. Congress has largely abdicated its responsibility here. The executive branch has been allowed to build out a massive detention infrastructure with very little scrutiny.
I drove out to Washington County, Maryland to see where our tax dollars are going. This warehouse is being converted into a new ICE detention facility. The Federal government purchased the property for $102m in January, and they’re spending a further $113m to retrofit it into a detention center.
A good part of the Charles County candidate forum was spent talking about Southern Maryland Rapid Transit (SMRT), a transit project that has been proposed, studied, debated, and kicked around since the 1990s. The demand is certainly there - Charles County has the worst commute times in the country!
DOGE didn’t save taxpayers any money. The Federal payroll hasn’t meaningfully decreased, and nor has the deficit. That’s because Federal workers were never the problem. Most spending goes to things like entitlements and defense (er, war?), not the salaries of people who keep our government running.
Diesel is already around $5 a gallon here, and well over $6 on the West Coast. Almost everything you buy from groceries to building materials gets delivered on a truck at some point. Thanks to Trump's war, an energy shock is rippling through supply chains, and working families will pay the price.
From our recent candidate forum in Waldorf. People in this district tell me the same thing over and over: they don’t feel like the Democratic Party is looking out for them. The last thing anyone wants is for their electricity bills to keep rising because we turn a blind eye to massive data centers.
Daylight Savings Time started out as a way to reduce coal consumption during World War I. In the end, it didn’t really save any energy. Congress actually came very close to ending DST in 2022: the Senate passed a bill *unanimously* but it stalled out in the House. In Congress, I'll reintroduce it.
I realize that it’s hard to keep track of all the impeachable offenses that the Trump administration commits on a daily basis, but that shouldn’t be an excuse for allowing them to continue. In Congress, I’ll fight to impeach, convict, and remove the President and his out of control administration.
Proud to stand with Anne Arundel County Firefighters in their fight for additional staffing. I love serving my community as a volunteer firefighter, but times have changed and our call volume is off the charts, and we do need a 4th firefighter on engines/ladders to comply with national standards.
Quick update from the firehouse, the snowstorm has kept us busy. I know things feel dark right now. This is going to get worse before it gets better. But across the political spectrum, more people are starting to realize that this crisis won’t end until Trump + his cronies are impeached/prosecuted.
I recently joined Dave Neal's Rush Hour podcast to talk honestly about how the Democratic Party's institutional failures helped us get into this mess. We need new candidates who aren't invested in the same corrupt, broken system of PACs, lobbyists, and corporations that buy themselves tax breaks.
It’s been a little over a week since Steny Hoyer announced his retirement. We've been super busy, but I appreciate all the messages of support! The best way to help right now is by sending a donation, but keep an eye out for meet-and-greet events, door-knocking, and phone-banking opportunities soon.
My 86-year-old Congressman, Steny Hoyer, just announced his retirement. He’s one of the only reps with Danish ancestry, and even keeps a Danish flag in his office. Even his name comes from the Danish name, "Steen." But his retirement is coming just as Trump is threatening Denmark about Greenland!
