Daylight Savings Time started out as a way to reduce coal consumption during World War I. In the end, it didn’t really save any energy. Congress actually came very close to ending DST in 2022: the Senate passed a bill *unanimously* but it stalled out in the House. In Congress, I'll reintroduce it.

I recently sat down for a video call with my friend Ryan Daniels, a former Marine who was just in Ukraine supporting the war effort. We spoke while he was in Kharkiv (with electricity, luckily). Ryan is also a candidate here in Maryland, running for St. Mary's County Commissioner District 4.

Tomorrow, June 2, is the last day to register as a Democrat for Maryland's 5th District primary. And let's be honest: whoever wins this primary is going to Congress. If you're not registered as a Democrat, the most important election for SOMD in a generation will be decided without your voice.

Protecting our chalk streams should never have been controversial — yet the amendment fell because the government refused to act and the Tories, the official opposition, wouldn’t back it. I’ll keep pressing for real protections for these precious ecosystems.
