Granting clemency to Tina Peters was a great injustice to Colorado, our democracy, and election workers all across this country. Instead of showing any remorse, she went straight from prison to Steve Bannon’s show to fuel the same election conspiracies.

Donald Trump recently signed an unlawful executive order targeting mail ballots. His order would unlawfully insert the federal government into state-run elections by creating a Trump voter list. Mail ballots are secure. They work. And millions of Americans of all political affiliations use them.

Tina Peters' actions had everything to do with the 2020 election. She compromised voting equipment to try to prove Trump's Big Lie.

Earlier in the month, I had the honor to join Cobalt to celebrate their incredible work to protect abortion access and reproductive freedom. Cobalt is on the front lines fighting for the right of every person to make their own health care decisions free from stigma, barriers, and politics.

The Big Lie – which inspired Tina Peters’ illegal actions – has had lasting consequences for election workers. The conspiracies have inspired threats, harassment, and intimidation. Clemency to Tina Peters will embolden election denialism even further, and was absolutely the wrong decision.

The harm caused by Tina Peters has spread well beyond the borders of Mesa County. Her attack was on the very pillars of American democracy.

Trump has weaponized his administration to push conspiracies about our elections — conspiracies that courts have debunked over and over. He's laying the groundwork to reject election results he doesn't like. We won't let him.

This clemency grant to Tina Peters is an injustice to our democracy. The Governor’s decision — and attempts to minimize her crimes — will validate and embolden the election denial movement, and leave a dark, dangerous imprint on American democracy for years to come.

The Supreme Court's decision is devastating for the Voting Rights Act. MAGA was already pursuing mid-decade redistricting to try to corruptly take control of Congress, and this decision adds fuel to that fire. But ultimately, the American people can save democracy. And I am optimistic that they will

Trump tried to steal the 2020 election. Now he's attacking the 2026 elections — weaponizing the DOJ, trying to collect sensitive voter data, and suing secretaries of state who refuse to hand it over. We will remain steadfast, push back, and urge every American to make a plan to vote.

The DOJ has now sued nearly 30 states for sensitive voter records that they don’t have a right to. When they asked Colorado for our data, I told them to take a hike. We will not help Donald Trump undermine our elections and hurt the American people.

Trump has made our elections less safe since retaking office. He has disbanded much of the federal government's work on securing elections and combatting foreign interference, and appointed election deniers to key positions. He is trying to silence the American people, but it will not work.

Mail ballots are the most accessible and secure ways to vote. And don’t just take my word for it: 98% of Colorado Republicans chose to vote with a mail ballot in our last election. MAGA Republicans want to take away your access to the ballot because they are afraid of you and your voice.
