After Operation Metro Surge, small businesses need our support. That’s why the City of Minneapolis is waiving license renewal fees for local businesses.

Today, we launched our fifth Operation Safe Summer, a joint initiative with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners that has consistently enhanced street safety during the year’s busiest period.

All Minneapolis residents deserve to feel safe living every day life. FAST, our new non-fatal shooting unit will dedicate a response team to interrupt patterns of retaliatory violence and help build safer neighborhoods across the city.

I stopped by BaGu Thai & Sushi to learn a few new recipes from Chou and his parents, who took over this gem in the Field neighborhood ten years ago. Small businesses are the heartbeat of our community and after Operation Metro Surge, many of them are in need of our support.

Today marks 259 days since the shooting at Annunciation last summer. Annunciation families and survivors, local leaders, and community advocates, are still asking for change.

Safe, stable housing has been a priority of mine since day one. Minneapolis is a leader in affordable housing — and now we’re making it easier to build and buy. That means cutting unnecessary red tape, streamlining permitting, and fast-tracking office-to-housing conversions.

It was an honor to celebrate the homecoming of Peyton Scott Russell to the North Side, who has transformed the Homewood Studio on Plymouth Ave into a brand new space to continue forging graffiti as fine art. I look forward to hanging an original piece in my office sometime soon!

They thought Operation Metro Surge would tear us apart and divide communities against each other. After our Cinco de Mayo festivals, it's pretty clear that they were wrong.

The Kenilworth Trail is open just in time for Bike Month! The vision is for multimodal transit - from bike to rail to bus to car to foot - you can get around Minneapolis and our region conveniently and affordably. Get out there on a bike and enjoy the weather everyone!

After sitting vacant for over a decade, the old auto shop at Broadway & Irving is finally gone. In partnership with Hennepin County and the community, we cleared the site and prepared it for future investment and growth in North Minneapolis.

Today’s the day — Doors Open Minneapolis is officially on from 10–5. One of the coolest weekends of the year: behind-the-scenes access, hidden gems, and some of the best spots across the city all opening their doors. Including City Hall. See you out there, Minneapolis!

Starting right now, parking meters on Lake and Lagoon from Humboldt to Fremont will be free every Friday starting 6pm until midnight. Let’s get Uptown back.

A 200% increase in applications. Major violent crime down. The most diverse group of officers in our city’s history. And one of the most significant reform efforts happening anywhere in the country. The work Chief Brian O’Hara has led in Minneapolis deserves to continue.

The state of our city is strong, but if we don’t get serious—about the work, our priorities, and about working together to imagine and achieve the city we all envision—our trajectory will not be.

SOUTH MINNEAPOLIS! The One Southside Clinic turns a building damaged in 2020 into a major investment in our future — expanding medical, dental, behavioral health, and vision care for thousands of residents under one roof, while creating tons of jobs on East Lake Street.

Tonight, I joined the Minneapolis Police Department Awards Ceremony to honor our first responders and police officers.

Minneapolis is committed to Vision Zero—a simple but urgent goal to guarantee zero traffic deaths and serious injuries on our streets by 2027. We are making progress. As of 2025, fatal crashes are down more than 40% from 2023.

Today, we celebrated more than the sale of a fourplex—we celebrated what’s possible when we align community investment, housing stability, and wealth-building opportunity.

37 capital projects underway. From resurfacing 20 miles of streets to replacing 1,800 lead service lines—and building three greenway bridges—we’re delivering the fundamentals that keep Minneapolis moving. This is city government at work. Not always glamorous, but it’s what makes our city run.

When thieves went after our street lights, we didn’t wait. Our Public Works crews got to work—and locked in a long-term fix. We’ve now restored 26 miles of copper wire, or over 700 lights, making our streets safer for everyone who uses them.

We went all in to protect our neighbors during Operation Metro Surge. We’re still all in and just this week, rolled out a $7 million small business resiliency fund to help businesses recover, stabilize, and move forward.

Mill City Roasters trains coffee professionals from around the world, and built the largest training roaster facility in North America right here in Northeast Minneapolis —clear proof that world-class innovation is happening in our city.

They’re teachers, scientists, lawmakers, mothers, caretakers, and doctors. There’s nothing women can’t do — and our city, and every city, is better because of them. Happy National Women’s Month!

New traffic cameras in five speed zones are doing exactly what it was designed to do - slow drivers down and make dangerous intersections safer for all vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians, and road users. In just three months, our traffic camera pilot reports speeding rates have dropped by 51%.

Three new skyway businesses in two weeks. That’s a downtown on the comeback. Congrats to Barra — a new speciality coffee shop on Nicollet Mall brewing up a great cup of coffee in the heart of our skyway system. Go see what the buzz is about.

A building reopened. A community strengthened. Today, we joined Red Lake Nation to celebrate the opening of Ombimindwaa Gidinawemaaganinaadog — a powerful new space for culture, ceremony, and healing. The City is proud to have partnered with our local Tribal leaders to make it happen.

The damage caused by Operation Metro Surge doesn’t disappear just because it’s ending. Families were torn apart. Small businesses lost millions. Students’ learning was disrupted. We’re focused on supporting our neighbors and small businesses as we move forward. They need us more than ever.

We’ll believe Operation Metro Surge is coming to an end when we see it, but let’s give it up for the people of Minneapolis and everyone who has stood with them. You are great neighbors and great Americans.
