At least 79 Britons have died at the hands of Kenneth Law, but his sentencing in Canada won't stop insidious pro-suicide forums taking more lives. The Government must hold a proper inquiry and take action to stop these tragic deaths.

Thames Water recycled sewage proposals at Teddington and bathing water designation are simply incompatible. It's time for Government to stop the TDRA and focus on cleaning up our river!

Young people are trying their best to go to college and get a job. It’s unacceptable that the Govt hasn’t funded FE places for 32,000 students in England. Despite Govt pledging real-terms increases, Richmond Upon Thames College saw just a 0.55% rise. We can’t keep letting young people down like this

Update on the train service at Hampton and Fulwell šŸ‘‡ļø I’ll be getting updates from SWR throughout the day and keep you in the loop as best I can. What's the point of new trains if they can't run?!

1 1

Are you a Twickenham constituent frustrated by SWR rail services in our area? Have your say in my survey. I’ll share the feedback with SWR as it conducts the first overhaul of its timetable in over 20 years. Read more here: tinyurl.com/3fsdfvmr

Ministers promised genuine increase in funding for colleges. In reality, @RuT_College has received a mere 0.55% per-student uplift. Students and staff are being short-changed.

This Chancellor, and this Government have lost all credibility - we cannot risk Heathrow expansion becoming another HS2, spiralling costs, half-cancelled after 10 years - the costs are too high.

7 1

Heathrow expansion will cost Ā£49 billion, and that’s being conservative. Gov’t refuses to admit that taxpayers will be forced to foot the bill - I called for transparency and accountability!

5 3

The human cost of Heathrow expansion the Government is ignoringšŸ‘‡ļø

5 1

This Government can move quickly when it wants to, yet parents, carers and children were initially told they would have to wait 3 years, and now are being left to wait up to 21 months, for action on online safety. That delay is unacceptable.

3 1

If we’re serious about growth, we’ve got to go for a customs union with the EU.

24 9

Making the case for a UK-EU Customs Union on the BBC today!

Deeply alarmed by reports that Labour MPs were being given pre-written feedback for the SEND consultation. Families deserve to have a real voice—not a managed one—at the heart of these decisions.

6 3

The Government is telling schools to plug a Ā£4.4bn hole in teacher pay with so called ā€œefficiency savings.ā€ That’s just cuts by another name. If ministers genuinely value teachers, they should fund pay rises properly.

We can’t keep waiting. Every day social media goes unregulated, our children face greater harm. @libdems.org.uk are urging the Government to set out a clear timeline for implementing social media regulation, so families know this issue isn’t being kicked down the road.

4 0

This is personal. Harmful social media has gone unchecked for too long. It’s time for big tech’s seatbelt moment— @libdems.org.uk and I will keep pushing this government to take action now, so our children get the childhood they deserve.

9 2

The Government has finally announced a ban on phones in schools. Why did they need to be dragged kicking and screaming? Just last week I made the case again on behalf of parents and headteachers.

Little Charlie would be walking today instead of learning to use a wheelchair if he'd been screened at birth and treated immediately for SMA Type 1. From Jesy Nelson to Charlie’s family, we all want the same thing: it's time Government agreed to screen all newborns.

Local businesses in Twickenham are struggling, and this is why… Follow me for part 2 to hear about the Lib Dem plan to Save Our High Streets!

4 1

The fact the Government is only offering Ā£1000 a year to certain students studying the ā€œrightā€ subjects is insulting. @libdems.org.uk would restore the Ā£3500 a year maintenance grant for all disadvantaged students, so no one faces barriers to go to uni.

12 3

Victims deserve timely information about what will happen to offenders. Roksana Lecka abused babies at a Twickenham nursery and was deported just a few months into her sentence, but parents only got 6 days' notice. I asked ministers to tell victims much earlier this might happen.

Sport can make a huge different to young people, both physically and mentally. I called on the Government to publish a national school sports strategy, and provide certainty of funding, to ensure every child in the country has the chance to play lots of different sport in school!

3 0

It seems everyone but the Government understands that children shouldn't be on harmful social media. This consultation misses the point. Parents want to know when and how Ministers will take action to protect our children.

5 4

As the proud Member for Parliament for the home of English rugby, I pressed the Government to do everything possible to improve access to playing fields, and to preserve Sport England’s vital role in the planning system to ensure we get more pitch space.

8 1

My recent visit to Isleworth Crown Court made clear to me again how wrong the Government is to be restricting the right to a jury trial. I urged the Justice Secretary to tackle the serious issues plaguing our courts and delaying trials, instead of attacking a fundamental right.

6 1

Yesterday Labour MPs voted against banning under-16s from harmful social media, making school uniform cheaper, giving vulnerable children enough money for therapy, and siblings separated in the care system the right to stay in contact.

6 4

I am proud that @libdems.org.uk introduced premium funding to ensure disadvantaged children - wherever they live - get more support at school. Ministers are proposing to "rebalance" funding and need to come clean as to who will lose out, and guarantee cash will always follow the child.

9 5

Parents and carers are concerned that reforms to the special educational needs system could strip their children of important rights. Change is desperately needed, but we must avoid trapping families in an endless doom-loop of disputes.

5 0

I and the libdems.org.uk forced a vote today to bring forward urgent legislation to protect our children better online, including banning harmful social media - neither the Conservatives nor Labour voted for it. We will keep fighting to make sure our children are safe online.

3 2

My response to the Government's reforms to the special educational needs system šŸ‘†ļø

4 2

Absolutely delighted that our stretch of the River Thames is being considered as one the first-ever designated bathing spots in London BUT also perplexed as to how Thames Water's sewage recycling proposals can possibly be compatible with this. My thoughts on LBC this morning šŸ‘‡šŸ½

2 1

It's time for the Government to admit what we've known all along - the maths simply doesn't add up for Heathrow expansion. The Chancellor has staked her credibility on economic growth on this project because her other policies are undermining growth.

6 2

Recent cases like Baby Gigi, Twickenham Green, Camden and Bristol have struck fear into every parent's heart. I called on the PM to act and mandate CCTV in every nursery, as well as creating a childcare workers’ register, so no parent worries about leaving their child in nursery.

6 1

A number of stay at home parents in our area who don't earn £12,500 are concerned they are going to face punishing childcare costs to qualify for the Government's new permanent residency rules. I hope ministers will think again and value caring as much as earning.

7 1

As Donald Trump weakens vital alliances and Vladimir Putin continues his unjustified war, the UK must act fast. I pressed the Minister to urgently convene cross-party talks to reach 3% of GDP on defence and ensure defence bonds are part of the solution.

5 1

The Home Secretary can make promises about community policing, but without proper investment, our area will see little difference. We're losing our police front counter, with Parks Police and School Liaison Officers already cut. It's time for more than just words, we need action.

5 0

I know many businesses in Twickenham and Teddington are struggling with rising costs, thanks to this Government's jobs tax and business rates hike. The Minister can make political jibes as much as he wants, but it won't help our high streets thrive, and simply isn't good enough!

1 0

With 2/3 of special schools full and councils paying eye watering sums for private special schools miles away, it makes no sense for ministers to cancel 18 new state special schools without talking to local authorities which know their communities' needs best.

3 0

We can’t waste time in protecting our children from social media giants but Government is kicking the can down the road with another consultation. @libdems.org.uk have called for urgent action, with a film-style classification system that would ban under-16s from harmful social media.

4 0

Trump, Musk and Farage know nothing about our great city, but I hear from local residents regularly who are seeing crimes like vehicle theft, phone theft and shoplifting rise. The Government and the Mayor need to come together and fund the Met properly.

16 2

I'm deeply worried about the impact of social media on children's health & wellbeing. This issue can't be kicked down the road any longer. The @libdems plan allows young people to stay connected with their friends and family, while tackling harmful social media.

12 1

Our local authority of Richmond-upon-Thames faces crippling cuts in government funding over the next 3 years which will hurt our most vulnerable residents hard. I challenged ministers to take away the cliff edge in these cuts to funding so that vital local services can be protected.

9 3

Last year Isleworth Crown Court closed 5 out of 14 courts due to maintenance issues and a cap on sitting days. Jury trials are the cornerstone of our justice system, yet the Govt wants to scrap them to deal with backlogs, instead of tackling system inefficiencies.

23 9

The Transport Secretary’s defence of SWR will ring hollow for local residents. We need to see a better service as soon as possible, and I will keep pressing for it at every opportunity.

5 1

Right across our local area, SWR is delaying and cancelling more and more services. While I look forward to meeting with SWR's Managing Director to press these issues in person, I have, today, also called for a debate in Parliament to discuss SWR's poor service.

My thoughts are with the families affected in the harrowing sexual abuse case uncovered at a Camden nursery. I hope they're receiving the support they need. This follows awful cases of abuse in nurseries in Twickenham and Cheadle. We must work together to make ourĀ nurseriesĀ safer.

I tabled an amendment to the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill to help local communities buy playing field sites that have been left derelict like Udney Park - I spoke in Parliament about it this week. (2/2)

1 0

Udney Park Playing Fields continue to lie derelict in the heart of Teddington despite growing demand from local groups. If this Government is serious about tackling our obesity and mental health crisis, it must do so much more to encourage access to playing field space. (1/2)

2 0

The Government's attempt to override local councils is as undemocratic as it is destructive. I spoke out in Parliament to criticise this blatant abuse of power and call for councils like Richmond upon Thames to be left alone to run themselves in the most effective way possible.

6 3

Good to see my campaign to sell unused public sites for community benefit and affordable homes being picked up on the Labour backbenches. I hope the Minister will take note of the new cross-party support and be bold enough to tackle the crisis in housing across London!
