Oxfam’s Humanitarian Lead in the DRC, Robert Petron Messe, told Sky News that the situation with the Ebola outbreak is alarming, but it’s still at a stage where decisive action can prevent a bigger crisis.

Oxfam Country Director in the DRC, Dr Manenji Mangundu told Sky News that the number of people infected with Ebola is much bigger than the reported cases. There is fighting and displacement in some areas which further contribute to the spread of the disease. Oxfam is working on the ground.

The response to the Ebola outbreak in DRC is critically under-resourced. Oxfam's DRC Country Director, Dr Manenji Mangundu, who is leading our response on the ground, told BBC World Service Radio that shortfalls in funding are crippling efforts to stop the virus spreading.

"It's extremely difficult… we don't see the same level of support from governments." Magnus Corfixen, Humanitarian Lead at Oxfam GB, on BBC World Service, speaking about the impact of aid cuts on communities, including in DRC where Oxfam is responding to the Ebola outbreak.

“When the funding was reduced, the resources shrank a lot, and this put people at high risk not only for Ebola but also cholera and mpox. It’s an emergency full of emergencies,” Oxfam’s DRC Country Director told Sky News speaking about the Ebola outbreak in the country.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire, further affected by the new war in the region. Bushra Khalidi, Oxfam’s policy lead, spoke to BBC World Service Radio and said that the work of aid agencies is impeded.
