We've got 30 years of evidence that privatised employment services and mutual obligations make finding work harder. It's insulting to people trapped in this harmful, failed system for Labor to simply fiddle at the edges and label it "reform".

Waiving some small historical debts and providing compensation for illegal income apportionment is welcome, but it's just scratching the surface. The govt needs to implement the Robodebt Royal Commission recommendations now and get to work on creating a social security system that lifts us all up.

After all the PM's spin about understanding poverty, Labor's budget does nothing to lift people out of it. No increase to JobSeeker, Youth Allowance, DSP or pension. This is a classic Labor move: feign concern about people's struggles then ignore them when it actually matters.
