Sterke gemeenschappen zijn nodig om vrije samenlevingen überhaupt leefbaar te houden. Zonder gedeelde moraal en sociale verbanden verandert vrijheid volgens hem in vrijblijvendheid en uiteindelijk in maatschappelijke ontbinding.
