At @HOCcommitteesUK SITC today I asked our wonderful UK-based agri-tech SMEs whether the public funding that they have received was focused and directed towards UK food security or broader global food security.

Real change happened this week. The National Living Wage rises 4.1% to £12.71, and the minimum wage for 18–20-year-olds jumps 8.5% to £10.85. The biggest upgrade to workers’ rights in a generation, tackling zero-hours contracts, supporting families, and strengthening trade unions.

Many of our digital harms are underpinned by engagement driven digital advertising. I asked The Secretary of State whether the Government will regulate this, as called for by my @HoCcommitteesUK report into social media, misinformation and harmful algorithms.

In the Rycroft report debate I raised @CommonsSITC evidence that TikTok Meta and X algorithms are controlled by foreign billionaires with political agendas and asked if that could constitute a political donation. I urged him to implement our proposals on algorithmic transparency

During the elections, Reform told my constituents new North Sea drilling would cut energy bills. I asked the SoS, if drilling were permitted tomorrow, who would benefit & how quickly and if it was the big oil companies was it surprising that Reform is funded by fuel investors?

At @CommonsSITC I asked Google whether they provided health or financial advice in response to search queries. They said they gave information not advice, but sought to ensure the quality of the information... it's not clear how useful a distinction that is!

At @HOCcommitteesUK SITC I asked new @Ofcom chair, Sir Ian Cheshire, if he is worried about the speed of technology change impacting Ofcom's many responsibilities - from Online Safety, BBC, Royal Mail, Data Centres, Telecoms, & chatbots encouraging children to harm themselves.

NHS waiting lists in Newcastle Hospitals have fallen by nearly a fifth since the General Election with over 2,500 fewer people waiting after a tough winter. There is more to be done but Labour is delivering a better NHS.
