As the Former Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, I know firsthand how the overly complicated and confusing duty status system denies our servicemembers the fair compensation and benefits they’ve earned.

This week, I celebrated the nine schools across San Gabriel Valley selected as 2026 California Distinguished Schools.

CA-31 residents are struggling to access affordable housing amidst the current housing crisis. This administration’s chaotic economic policies are only making that harder.

When I was at the Pentagon as the Undersecretary of Personnel and Readiness, every promotion for every general and flag officer in the U.S. military came across my desk. Never did we ever talk about quotas for race or gender. Everything that the military does has been based on merit.

Small business owners are the backbone of our economy, and we must give them the support they need to succeed. That’s why I co-lead the Protecting Small Business Competitions Act to safeguard small businesses and protect their right to compete for government contracts.

Under this administration’s policies, the economy is failing small businesses and working Americans. At yesterday’s House Small Business Committee hearing, I highlighted how people are being forced into gig work to make ends meet.

Yesterday, I joined my colleagues to correct bigoted attempts to rename bases after confederate secessionists. Instead of improving military quality of life, Republicans would rather spend their time glorifying the legacies of people who took up arms against the United States.

It’s time to get this long overdue policy change across the finish line and pass my bill, the Duty Status Reform Act.
