Speed cameras save lives by getting reckless drivers off the road. Data centers save lives too by reducing the need to drive. By ordering groceries to be delivered instead of driving to pick them up, for example. Especially for elderly drivers. Or tired drivers of any age. Also telemedicine & AI.

Preventive medical care is the best type of medical care. Leaves more resources to help those who are already sick. Fighting the tobacco industry was preventive medical care. There are many other examples. Modern technology helps sick & elderly people take care of many of their own daily needs.

Inventory taxes are often a big part of this. When a state imposes inventory taxes, merchandise is warehoused in buildings in adjacent states that don't have inventory taxes. Result is longer commutes for warehouse workers, more freight trucks on highways, more diesel consumption, more death.
