Why use turns? Why are we measuring combat in turns… instead of seconds? Turns are artificial. Seconds make sense. A running player can cover 25 feet every second. So why do most RPGs let one player move 50–75 feet… while everyone else is frozen?

In tabletop RPGs, Rules as Written offer structure and fairness, while treating them as suggestions allows flexibility and storytelling freedom. Each game master finds their own balance—whether by enforcing every rule or bending them to keep the adventure fun. What do you think?
