The 1921 French epic L'ATLANTIDE is slower than molasses and I love it so. Shot on location in Algeria and starring Stacia Napierkowska as Queen Antinea, who kidnaps French soldiers, drives them to their deaths and then bronzes their bodies for decor. God forbid a woman should have hobbies.

The film is clunky, melodramatic, overacted and quite sloppy in places in an apples to apples comparison with other features and epics of the period. The problem is that very very few people watch 1912-1915 features and epics. Or BOAN itself, in many cases. It's a Blue Stone of Galveston situation.

But in the meantime, just watch anything directed by Jean Durand. One of the most wonderfully weird people to ever direct a movie and he deserves to be better known
