Related: a bike bus was such a lovely and energizing way to kick off Councilor Koyama Lane's re-election launch party, which included riding TO that bike bus with my neighbors!

People expect their local leaders to be innovating and pushing the status quo to help people, ESPECIALLY right now. I spent my morning at TriMet's Board of Director's meeting and at Portland City Hall. Here were some of my takeaways.

150 PORTLAND DONORS! This is a MASSIVE milestone en route to the 250 Portland donors we need to unlock a 10x match, and it wouldn't have been possible without you. Thank you.

Let's talk about Universal Basic Mobility! All people - no matter how much money they have or where they live - should be able to CHOOSE how they get around... and should ACTUALLY be safe. This means more than just no-barrier access to transportation: it means transforming our streets.

In my view, Portland's public safety conversation a) needs to NOT just be about law enforcement, and b) needs to be honest about and address systemic, root-cause issues, even as we work to make positive change in the short-term.

Portland City Council needs a better way to break ties... and it needs to come from the legislature, NOT the Mayor. Portlanders voted to affirmatively move away from a government where the Mayor voted on policy, and we should respect that in our tiebreaking rules (which do need reform).

Let's talk a bit more about freeway removal 📣 - Yes, it's possible - Yes, there will be naysayers - If we don't plan and fight for it, it won't happen And yes, I am once again humbly asking for your $5 donation. We had our best fundraising day yesterday! Let's keep it rolling 🙏

Mt. Tabor is an irreplaceable resource to our City with a dope geologic history! Join me on a 2-minute tour:

A few thoughts about the need for: - A consistent, competitive process to award funding to nonprofits - A re-evaluation of the City / County relationship - An independent audit of the (extremely) over-cost Bull Run Filtration Project - A PUBLIC process to award PUBLIC money to the Moda Center

A few thoughts on housing, homelessness, the need for a new housing bond, and Inner Eastside for All:

We cannot let our most urgent problems cloud our vision for the future. At a Portland City Council candidate forum today, I talked about wanting to make sure we're not making rank-and-file staff bear the brunt of budget cuts, and that we pair a vision for our future with steps on how to get there.

In my view, the City Budget Office ought to be more independent, and Portland City Council deserves to learn about budget information quickly so that they can make smart budgeting decisions on behalf of their constituents. A brief video on this ⬇️

I went to the Lloyd Center the other day. After talking with some folks and listening to a few hours of Lloyd Center Master Plan presentation and testimony - I better understand how folks are connected to that space, even if I don't agree with efforts to stop Lloyd's demolition and development (1/2)

Let's get rid of the Marquam Bridge and I-5 in inner SE. A few thoughts as you watch this clip: - This isn't a new idea. - We'd recover dozens of blocks of the most valuable developable land in the City. - It will never happen LATER if we don't talk about it and plan for it NOW.

Portland's small businesses are what make Portland... Portland! We need to listen, not pretend we know more about their pressures than they do, and do more to help. That can mean a lot of things, including making permitting easier and increasing transit, walking, and biking which increases sales.

Hear me out... Portland City Council needs a shot clock 🏀⏲️ That, plus a bit on what I mean when I say "collaborative leadership" and my approach to delegating and trusting my team in this clip from my interview with @bikeportland.org. Full interview: bikeportland.org/2026/04/09/p...

People expect Portland City Council to get stuff done, and I'm running because I have a blend of experience, education, approach, and perspective that is particularly needed in this moment in Portland's history. Link to full interview with Bike Portland below ⬇️

I have a (fair and reasonable!) challenge for new Blazers owner Tom Dundon to negotiate in good faith with the City of Portland about using public dollars to fund Moda Center renovations. From my recent @bikeportland.org interview that you can find here: bikeportland.org/2026/04/09/p...

Go to reps.fyi right now. Call your two US Senators and your US Representative. Tell them you need them to put their careers and reputation on the line to remove the President from office, now. Nobody - not MAGA, not your grandmother who is a Republican, nobody - can support "civilization will die."
