Trump continues to upend the world order. For decades, U.S. Taiwan policy has been strategic ambiguity. But after the China summit, he’s publicly made that ambiguity less ambiguous, and not in Taiwan’s favor.

The problem is not what Blanche used to be. It is what he is still doing. If you use the DOJ to serve Trump personally, the old title still fits.

McCormick calling the Trump administration a “regime” before correcting himself is one of those moments where the truth accidentally walks into the room.

Courts cannot become “empty fronts” for people misusing the legal system. If justice becomes fraud, “going through the motions without content and without meaning,” then the rule of law itself starts to collapse.

Trump was asked whether the U.S. would defend Taiwan in the event of a Chinese invasion. There’s a normal version of this answer: “U.S. policy toward Taiwan has not changed.” But telling the world that Xi asked, then framing the answer as: “Only I know,” makes it sound like it’s a negotiable point.

A judge dismissed all charges against the Broadview Six after learning prosecutors communicated with grand jurors outside the jury room, excused dissenting jurors, and redacted misconduct from transcripts. The judge said her trust in the DOJ was broken. Think about how extraordinary that is.

The $100 million figure was not “made up.” It was a reported estimate of potential liability if Trump lost a long-running IRS audit fight.

The move here is obvious. Erase years of right-wing extremist violence, recast groups perceived by Trump and his hard-core supporters as political enemies and threats to society, and call it “counterterrorism.

The administration stripped funding from PBS and NPR in the name of ending taxpayer subsidies for “biased” media. Now tax dollars may flow to OAN, tied to election conspiracy claims. Apparently “biased media” is fine when it’s their biased media.

The question is not “Can institutions handle Trump?” We already saw the answer: only barely, and only because some people inside the room resisted him. Dr. Gartner raises the point that those people are gone.
