Today in QT, I asked the Treasurer what modelling the Govt has done on extending CGT changes beyond investment property & whether he will release it. You can watch the Treasurer’s full response on my website: zalisteggall.com.au/news

We know budget repair is needed to reduce the high interest costs Australia is paying on national debt, but Australians are already doing it tough & cutting income support would only hurt those most vulnerable. A 25% gas export tax is a modest proposal for the use of our national resources.

Real national resilience does not come from staying hooked on imported fuel. We need to electrify the economy and transport, expand charging infrastructure, modernise the grid, and make it easier for households and businesses to cut oil dependence. www.zalisteggall.com.au/speaks_on_ur... #auspol

The violent scenes that played out in central Sydney last night were deeply troubling, and entirely foreseeable. We are Australians, first and foremost. Inviting a foreign head of state to Australia when the consequences for social cohesion are so obvious shows a serious failure of judgment.

Inflation pressures remain persistent. In 2024–25, the Govt handed out $12.5 billion in fossil fuel subsidies. It’s time to rethink priorities. We need smarter, climate-aligned budgeting that delivers real cost-of-living relief and invests in Australia’s future.

The public wants accountability and the issue of femicide and intimate partner violence elevated. Only a national RC will ensure state and territory responses, funding, policing, all failures, all policies, are scrutinised. Watch the govt’s response to my question: www.zalisteggall.com.au/news

Australia is making progress—but we must accelerate our transition to clean energy. We need urgent action: ✅ Stronger targets for transport, agriculture and aviation ✅ A Sustainable Aviation Fuel mandate ✅ Accurate monitoring of methane

It’s been over 2 years since the late Peta Murphy’s inquiry into online gambling advertising & how it affects problem gamblers. Since then, Australians have lost $60 billion to gambling. Australians need a government with the will and the courage to protect them from gambling harms.

There’s a lot of misinformation being spread and it's communities who pay the price. We need honest, science-based leadership that brings communities together and delivers a clean, secure energy future. #AusPol

The govt’s environment laws ignore the biggest threat to nature - climate change. I’ve proposed several amendments, including requiring climate-related financial & transition risk disclosure as a consideration for all approvals, as well as embedding a duty of care for wellbeing of future generations

Disappointed by the govt’s rushed push to pass a 1,500-page environment bill without proper scrutiny or consultation. This is a key chance to protect nature & embed climate accountability—but the bill falls short. View my full speech here: www.zalisteggall.com.au/speaks_on_th... #EPBC #Auspol

Great news! The govt will finally introduce local content rules for streaming platforms. This is a huge win for Aussie stories, jobs and our screen industry. Proud to have stood alongside actors, creators and so many others who helped push for this outcome. It’s a great day for Australian stories.

The govt promised local content quotas for streamers back in 2019 – but 55,000 Aussie screen industry jobs are still at risk. France, Italy and others have acted. Why hasn’t Australia? Sign the petition to #MakeItAustralian and #SaveAustralianStories www.change.org/p/save-austr...

The govt is yet to release the exposure draft of its EPBC reforms — keeping community in the dark on vital environmental legislation. Without transparency or consultation, we can’t deliver the strong protections nature needs. Once again, this govt chooses secrecy over integrity. #auspol #EPBC

The budget outcome shows that disaster relief cost $5.5b more than expected, while the PRRT delivered $30m less. Natural disasters are costing us more & fossil fuels are contributing less than promised. If the govt is serious about fiscal responsibility, it must stop approving fossil fuel projects.

91 26

The PM is having a bet each way — strong rhetoric at the UN while still approving projects that put fuel on the fire. A 62–70% target is fence-sitting, not leadership. We need ambition that keeps Australians safe and seizes the economic opportunities that clean energy presents.

In QT, I asked the Treasurer why climate resilience & adaptation weren’t even on the agenda at his economic roundtable. His response was brief, underwhelming & telling. Climate risk is economic risk. The longer we wait, the higher the cost. Watch the exchange here: www.zalisteggall.com.au/news

While others in Parliament tried to wind back Net Zero, I introduced a plan to protect communities from climate risk—with mandatory 5-year assessments and a national adaptation strategy. Disasters cost us $38B a year. Denial won’t help—preparedness will. #auspol #NetZero #75by35

The proposed EV road-user charge is unfair & not what the Productivity Commission recommended. Any road-user charge should be part of a national, equitable reform that applies to all vehicles. It should replace the outdated fuel excise & reflect the true cost and emissions impact of transport.

The Re-energised Economy plan, developed with economist Dr Emma Aisbett, sets out a clear path to modernise our economy—cutting emissions, supporting small business, boosting productivity and tackling intergenerational inequality. zalisteggall.com.au/re-energised_economy #ReEnergisedEconomy

Today in QT I asked the govt: will you be ambitious on climate? The ICJ has affirmed nations have a legal duty to prevent climate harm. Yet this govt continues to approve gas projects to 2070— completely undermining our climate commitments. www.zalisteggall.com.au/news #75by35 #auspol #netzero

Today I reintroduced the govt’s own bill to ensure truth in political advertising. With AI deepfakes, deceptive campaigns & growing voter distrust, we must act. 89% of Australians support this reform—there’s no excuse not to pass it before the next election. www.zalisteggall.com.au/news #auspol

The Federal Court says no duty of care to protect Torres Strait Islanders from climate change—but the International Court of Justice says otherwise. Australia must take responsibility and stop subsidising fossil fuels. We owe future generations a safe, healthy future. #75by35 #ClimateAction #auspol

This morning I moved an amendment to better define disorderly conduct in Parliament—including harassment, bullying and intimidation. Clear standards matter. While not passed, the Govt has committed to further consideration. Parliament must be a respectful and professional workplace. #auspol

I’m calling on the govt to review the AUKUS agreement and ensure contingencies are in place. Our national security, defence strategies & budgets must be determined by Australia for Australia. Aus deserves defence policies based on strategic foresight, capability and transparency. #AUKUS #auspol

The Petroleum Resource Rent Tax (PRRT) is unfit-for-purpose. Currently the govt raises significantly more revenue from HECS repayments than it does from PRRT. I’m calling for sensible, overdue reforms: ‱ Reduce the PRRT deductions cap from 90% to 80% ‱ Remove the 7-year exemption period #auspol
