The Secretary of State for Health is absolutely right that the NHS must innovate and renew. I am concerned that the focus on physical health in last weeks budget risks deprioritising mental health instead.

Yesterday, I spoke in a debate on active travel. I'm proud to be Oxford's MP, home to the country's no.1 cycling school, Cherwell, where 58% of students cycle. Segregated cycle lanes are just one part of the Lib Dem effort to get 1 million people cycling in Oxfordshire by 2031.

I'm so pleased that the two-child benefit cap has been scrapped, something the Lib Dems have long campaigned for. However, the Chancellor missed a huge opportunity to reverse the £90bn a year cost of the Tories botched Brexit deal and announce a new UK-EU Customs Union.

The changes to leaseholds announced today are welcome, but the Government must go further to tackle rip off service charges. Social housing tenants are often the ones left most affected by these rip off charges. I am pleased that the Minister has agreed to meet to discuss this issue further.

It was great to join BBC Radio Oxford yesterday to take calls from listeners. I am so pleased to see progress on Lodge Hill after many years of campaigning on this issue by local residents and Oxfordshire Lib Dems. The works will greatly improve congestion around Abingdon.

Today I asked the Prime Minister if he would look at Lib Dem plans to introduce a regulator and a cap on outrageous, rip-off service charges. The stories of Allison and Rebecca being ripped off by the wild west of the service charge sector are sadly all too common.

Since 2019, the NHS has spent more money on maternity negligence claims than the entire NHS maternity budget for same period. Investment now in maternity services will reap rewards very quickly. The Government does not need to wait for the Amos review to start making a change.

South East Water have done the extraordinary by making Thames Water look good. The Liberal Democrats have long called for a better regulator to fix our broken water industry. We are also calling for water companies such as Thames Water to be made a public benefit company.

I was shocked when a midwife in Oxford told me stories of sewage dripping through the ceilings at the hospital and into the maternity unit. Whilst staff at the hospital do their upmost to provide the best care for patients, they can only do so if supported with extra funding from the Government.
