Working families are struggling and youth unemployment is soaring. Yet the Liberals are planning an austerity budget. New Democrats believe this is the wrong approach. It’s time to invest in Canadians, create good jobs, build affordable homes, and strengthen public healthcare.

The Liberal government’s so-called “sovereign wealth fund” is nothing like the Norwegian example they’ve cited. Norway invests revenue from its public oil company into its fund for the public’s benefit.

The Liberals’ budget bill hides a major threat to Canada’s democratic checks and balances. It gives ministers sweeping power to override Parliament by waiving laws for select individuals and corporations. Such extraordinary measures shouldn't be buried in a 600‑page omnibus bill.
