With rents soaring and home ownership increasingly out of reach, the federal government must address the housing crisis in the upcoming budget. That means dramatically scaling up the construction of non-market homes of all types, including co-op, student, senior and supportive housing.

The Liberals’ budget bill hides a major threat to Canada’s democratic checks and balances. It gives ministers sweeping power to override Parliament by waiving laws for select individuals and corporations. Such extraordinary measures shouldn't be buried in a 600‑page omnibus bill.
