Pre-1915 and particularly pre-1910 movies can be a hard sell because the star system had not yet been established and it's sometimes hard to attract interest without big names. But there are so many other delights.

The 1900s-1910s had 1860s nostalgia HARD. The 1920s were all-in for 1880s-1900s nostalgia. Legal booze! Nobody had ever heard of a World War! After WWII, nostalgia for 1900-1913 was at its peak, before it was finally supplanted for the 1950s nostalgia craze of the 1970s.

THE WIZARD OF OZ (1939) was the third cinematic reboot of Oz. The Selig company brought it to the screen in 1910 (after L Frank Baum lost his shirt on a multimedia presentation that included some filmed sequences), Baum relaunched in the mid-1910s, Larry Semon did his worst in the 1920s.

The film is clunky, melodramatic, overacted and quite sloppy in places in an apples to apples comparison with other features and epics of the period. The problem is that very very few people watch 1912-1915 features and epics. Or BOAN itself, in many cases. It's a Blue Stone of Galveston situation.
