This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the NDP and for our country. I was proud to introduce the House to the new leader of Canada’s NDP, Avi Lewis. Under his leadership, New Democrats are united and ready to fight for the progressive change that Canadians deserve.

Canadians are facing a severe affordability crisis. Families are struggling to cover basic expenses, relying on high-interest credit just to get by, while food bank use has surged. In a country as wealthy as ours, no one should be forced into debt just to put food on the table.

Canada says it stands against superpower intimidation. The U.S. blockade on Cuba has caused decades of hardship and cutting off fuel risks a dire humanitarian crisis. Will the Prime Minister keep his word and support an independent, humane foreign policy?

I spoke to CBC about the war on Iran and the Prime Minister’s support for it. Canada needs to take a principled, lawful and consistent approach to foreign policy issues.

Economic anxiety is rising across Canada. Working families are facing deep uncertainty, excessive costs, and the highest unemployment rate in a decade. Yesterday I met with the PM and made it clear: now is not the time for an austerity budget. Canada needs investment, not cuts.

Today I introduced legislation to ban floor crossing without voter consent. When MPs switch parties after an election, they override the will of the people and erode trust. My bill restores accountability: if you want to change parties, face your constituents and let them decide.

New Democrats believe in supporting big nation-building projects, like an East-West clean electricity grid, which would create hundreds of thousands of jobs, reduce pollution, promote energy security and lower energy bills.

Legal experts just confirmed Danielle Smith's private health care law breaks the Canada Health Act. Wealthy patients pay to skip the line. Everyone else waits longer. Protecting public healthcare is the federal government's job. So why is PM Carney letting Conservatives dismantle it?
