Last week, I told you about my new book, 107 Days — a behind-the-scenes, candid, and personal account of my time leading the shortest presidential campaign in modern history. Now, here's a behind-the-scenes look at announcement week.

Under the current administration, Black maternal health initiatives and women’s health research are under attack. This Black Maternal Health Week, we recognize that the fight continues to ensure the health and safety of all women in this country.

We have to stay focused on what is in front of us. We must win the midterms. But we must also have a vision for when we are in power to address childcare, housing, and health care and make life more affordable.

During Black Maternal Health Week, we celebrate the progress we have made and continue to address this issue with urgency. This year, as Black maternal health initiatives and women’s health research are under attack, our fight remains more important than ever.

Last week, it was my honor to visit the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis. As I stood on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel where Dr. King spent his final moments, I thought about what Dr. King would see if he looked at America now. What would he think? What would he say?

To the young leaders of Fisk University and the volunteers I met with the Tennessee Democratic Party: Thank you for using your voice to fight for our nation. Always remember, the power is with the people.
