We need a functioning Department of Justice, IRS, FBI. We need our institutions to function again. We cannot allow them to become a power ministry for our dear leader.

California is proving fiscal discipline and investing in people can coexist. The state budget is built to leave the next administration on stable financial footing while continuing major investments in affordability, healthcare and public services.

California chose stronger environmental standards decades ago to fight severe pollution and smog. At the same time, the state continued investing in higher wages, tax credits, and housing protections for working families.

From attacks on the Voting Rights Act to rollbacks targeting women, this moment is a reminder: progress is never permanent. Every generation has to defend it.
