ok that's the top to bottom order of operations + all lookups + inlined interpolation for the new renderer! i just added depth test. without further optimizations we are at 15ms, just barely squeaking in to hit 60fps! about twice the performance of the previous renderer.

ok that's interesting. you potentially get some compelling chromatic effects when you do "dirty" initial colors and do shadows by randomly dropping out individual bits.

ok i got individual layer colors working with precomputed! (actual colors are messed up at present.) i don't yet know if this is actually faster than the other approach. it depends where the bottlenecks are. if array lookups are where it's binding, then this is no better. if it's per ray math, good.

i am refactoring to use precomputed colors. i'm not sure exactly how haze will work yet, but i think there's a pretty significant speed boost from this.

i maybe found a hazeless tuning set i like. it's not 100% but there is something there.

if your color is "dirtier", eg more of the bits have 1s in them, then bitwise tricks like this work better. this is fainter than i want, but see this is darkening more of the colors now.
