TALK TO THE PEOPLE MAKING THE PLAN. Even if you are aware and highly involved with the work of the Universal Health Plan Governance Board, the process is long, involved, and confusing. Oregon is on track to be the first state to transition to a universal healthcare system, and the time is now.

Read our summary about what happened in the latest meeting of the Universal Health Plan Governance Board. It is some dense and interesting stuff: how exactly do we as a state transition to universal health care plan for every person in Oregon?

Jackie, our Portland Chapter Chair, gave a fantastic presentation at last week's Health Care Reform Town Hall. Oregon needs a system that works for all of us, now. HCAO is almost entirely led by a team a dedicated volunteers. Join a local Chapter in your area.

The Community Engagement and Communications Committee of the Universal Health Plan Governance Board meets once a month, and have set aside a dedicated hour to speak directly to you about what you need in a universal health care system. Do you need Universal Health Care yesterday? Let them know.

Can you share an instance of when you wanted to give a patient a certain level of care, but their insurance wouldn't support it? Some patients, if they have a high deductible, and a high copay, potentially will wait to get a CT which would tell them that they qualify for surgery.

"For every nurse that graduates in Oregon, two move in." This is a question from the Eugene Town Hall: This plan assumes we have infrastructure and providers to see these patients. Who was responsible for addressing this delivery infrastructure gap? RN Matt Calzia sat on our panel.

If Oregon had universal health care system, we could treat patients more as people, and less as numbers. "What do you think that would do for people?" Universal Health Care for everybody would improve everyone's overall health.

What will be done to bring in more doctors and nurses to aid people? The Universal Health Plan Governance Board wants to prevent something we see in our current broken system, which is that people have coverage but no access. We need to improve access, and deal with our current provider shortage.
