When "one of the dominoes falls", and a state (like Oregon or Washington!) becomes the first state to move to a universal health care plan, other states will make the move shortly thereafter. We stopped by the Whole Washington Gala in Seattle a few weeks ago. @wholewashington.bsky.social

It seems like there is a lack of patience in our society these days, especially on this platform. The arguments for universal healthcare are so numerous, it can be really frustrating, repeating them, add nausea and expecting to move the needle.

What will be done to bring in more doctors and nurses to aid people? The Universal Health Plan Governance Board wants to prevent something we see in our current broken system, which is that people have coverage but no access. We need to improve access, and deal with our current provider shortage.

4 3

We are losing providers due to moral injury. Folks in the Eugene area have seen the results of protecting the bottom line with the cutting of service at the Peace Health Center. In the status quo, providers are forced to make decisions that are not in alignment with what is best for their patients

Oregon is on track to be the fist state to transition to universal health care, but we are far from the first or only state to make this attempt. Between 2011 and 2014, Vermont made an amazing attempt, but ultimately did not succeed. In Oregon, we must consider the lessons learned!
