The United States is an outlier in cost versus longevity. This kind of comparison is used often to assess the health or the efficacy of healthcare programs around the world. We spent on average over $12,000 per person per year, while other countries spend far less and have longer life expectancy .

Many states around the country are gearing up for a push to be the first state to transition to a universal, single payer system. We think that Oregon is the most likely state to make this move first, and we expect to vote on the transition plan in 2028.

"For every nurse that graduates in Oregon, two move in." This is a question from the Eugene Town Hall: This plan assumes we have infrastructure and providers to see these patients. Who was responsible for addressing this delivery infrastructure gap? RN Matt Calzia sat on our panel.

Oregon is the only state to have a constitutional amendment guaranteeing healthcare as a fundamental right of its residents. There are many of us in the state that are completely fed up with our broken healthcare system. HCAO is committed to making this potential transition a reality.
