i liked this intermediate state of the renderer, so i saved off a build.

i think maybe if i find the right magic value, i can do shadows by bitmasking?

ok this is promising- with shadows (not rendering) for everything, it's at 10ms. but that's only with inlined point samples, not interpolation. if i turn on interpolation w/ a function, it's 23ms or so. i'm going go try inlining.

oh! that was an unexpected bug. i was just going to do dithered shadows and i ended up with... i think it's the span lengths messing with the dither?

messing with dithering a bit more. i kind of want to try this with stricter color restrictions. i don't think i want to dither the colors though, just the shadows?

i thought i would take a stab at just projection for the additional primitives, which resulted in the most baroque graphical glitch

ok that's the top to bottom order of operations + all lookups + inlined interpolation for the new renderer! i just added depth test. without further optimizations we are at 15ms, just barely squeaking in to hit 60fps! about twice the performance of the previous renderer.

i got precomputed color working with all the primitives now. everything is green because i don't have per-layer color yet, but it's definitely a mood.

i'm trying out some expressive bitwise tricks for lighting which may end up doing interesting expressive things with hue. the glitches are fun.

this sort of thing is honestly such a huge part of why doing game development is so wonderful.
